We spent a Saturday in Arrowtown with our young family. There are some great restaurants to try - Slow Cuts and The Chop Shop, lots of beautiful shops with some wonderful souvenirs, jewellery, furniture, knick-knacks etc. Walk down the main street and it feels like an old movie set. By the afternoon it was getting very busy, with quite a few buses of tourists, so perhaps worth getting there earlier in the day.

We took a stroll down to the river and found that there was a set of walks you could do around the area. We found one that was suitable for buggies, which was fantastic. It took us around 1.5 hours, but was very leisurely and peaceful, walking along the river and among the trees. There were a couple of fun ropes tied to trees for swinging over the river.

Overall a good day / half day out.

A bit packed with tourists, but you can still enjoy this place. The library is something not to be missed, as are the pies from the corner bakery. The quilting shop is another cool little place!

Although the Main Street has lots of old buildings, these have been converted into shops full of either clothing or tourist type items. However, there are options for good walks down by the river and not to be missed is the Chinese Settlement as well. If you want to spend some time exploring areas other than shopping there is lots of free whole day parking available below the town while on the Main Street time is limited.

Just a short drive from Queenstown is the old gold mining town of Arrowtown. It has been developed into a pretty little place retaining some of the old shop fronts along the Main Street and it has an interesting museum. The shops are a bit touristy and the place does get lots of visitors and coach tours. Plenty of cafes and dining places.
