“Arthur's Cabin - a home from home”
Reviewed April 2, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

My partner, 12 year old son & myself enjoyed a peaceful weekend at Arthur's Cabin. The location is fantastic, being set just off the A1 in Northumberland with easy access to the coast and country alike. The cabin itself is spacious and has been fitted out with top quality fittings. The sofa is a dream and is only surpassed in comfort by the beds.
It was a little cold when we were there but I would imagine that it would be lovely to sit outside on a Summer's evening and enjoy the peace and quiet.
The little touches like the welcome hamper, books and games make this extra special.
I would highly recommend a stay here for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle and just chill out.

My partner and I had a gorgeous weekend in this beautiful cabin. The minute I walked through the door, I felt relaxed and at home. The location is spot on as it is right on the lakeside. We had our 8 month old baby with us and even she seemed much more chilled out than usual! The double bed was so comfy and it was a joy to be able to have a morning cup of coffee on the porch watching the ducks on the lake.
The shower is very special and certainly wakes you up in the morning! I didn't want to get out of it.
Arthur's Cabin is the perfect base for exploring Northumberland and also an ideal place to relax and escape the rat race.

“King Arthur!”
Reviewed March 12, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

Arthur's Cabin is an excellent log cabin retreat that is situated in a park off the A1 and sits right on the banks of a bijou lake. It is a beautiful location and incredibly peaceful which, believe me, is something we desperately needed. The cabin itself is larger than it appears from the outside and there is plenty of room in the open plan lounge/dining area/kitchen for the six people it is rated to accommodate. What is especially nice about this open area is that the lighting can be altered to create the feeling that they are separate from each other ( I had the lounge only lit by a side lamp and felt thoroughly snug and enclosed).

The kitchen is brilliant and incredibly spacious with a superb oven, gas hobs, freezer, dish washer and fridge and I would highly recommend getting in a load of fresh food and having a good old cooking session, there's plenty room on the black marble work tops to lay it all out on! All the fittings are modern, well made and very attractive. A theme that runs in every corner of this property. There are touches of the antique in the furnishings, particularly the gorgeous wooden coffee table in the lounge and the wardrobes and bedside cabinets. We slept in the double bed in the main bedroom, if you can imagine all those sumptuous beds in period dramas with their myriad pillows, thick duvets and plush covers...that's what you get here. Definitely a bed to collapse into; even better to wake up in and read with a nice cup of tea come the morning.

We put our eight month old baby in one of the twin rooms off from the dining area and had no trouble with noise disturbing her after she'd gone down despite there being only a door between her and the living space.

The shower room is large and the sink has a very useful shaving mirror that can be brought out on its extending arm. The shower itself...has to be experience to be believed. I've never seen anything like it before in my life. There is a normal shower head as you would expect plus a larger ceiling mounted head. The real treat comes in the form of the seated corner (yes, that's seated corner) that has sprinkler jets to spray your back with hot water! All of these can be adjusted, switched and interchanged to suit you as you relax listening to your favourite station on the in-built radio...underneath the optional extra lighting! In short it is exquisite.

As far as the external attractions go (there is a yet to be added Hot Tub btw) one can take a wander along the gravel path that goes around the lake. There are picnic tables on piers that jut out over the water and you can take your time to watch the families of ducks and swans that periodically touch down for a swim and a waddle. Within the park's grounds there is a set of swings and a slide for the children (and for the adults if you are a certain Lady Warkworth) and a forest walk. The reception building has a licensed bar but we didn't get to use that facility as it was closed for refurbishment.

We did walk to nearby Eshottheugh, where there is a collection of buoildings offering a pleasant range of family attractions. Most notably the little zoo that has meerkats, skunks, foxes, goats, donkeys, rabbits, and a menagerie of varying breeds of chicken! Great for kids and parents alike. The tea room is the home of British Beef Jerky and Biltong beef, I didn't try any this time around but I was sufficiently intrigued to have another look online when we left, and an art gallery/gift shop. There is also a Paint Ball range on the way there and Arthur would be a great base for a group of lads and lasses who wished to shoot each other and then return to and recover (that shower would prove a God Send in this case for a paint ball battered body).

Finally I should mention that every visit receives a welcoming hamper from the owners. A great touch if I may say so, not least because it was personalised to us and featured some cracking ales for me, bacardi mixers for my partner Anna plus some posh lemonade, crisps, beautiful loaf of olive infused bread and some lovely little pots of mixed marmalade and jam. They certainly went out of their way to make the stay a personal one and it certainly won't be forgotten.

I highly recommend you hire Arthur's Cabin, it was a great few days break for us and we'd go back again and go for longer. For peace and quite, peace of mind, and the snuggiest space I've ever stayed in, this can't be beaten.
