Big message to owners: Charging for WI-FI when people are paying a premium is CHEAP AND NASTY!!

Between my partner and myself we have been coming here once or twice yearly for 8-9 years. It hasn't changed one bit. Maintenance is average. Same furniture, carpet, paint on walls etc. I seem to think that they changed the bed (in the unit we always get anyway) to a less comfier one, perhaps when changed ownership in 2010. We noticed a differenct in comfort (bed didn't seem as fluffy/ comfy). ALso a HUGE annoyance: TV's in bedrooms both get progressively worse and don't work now. 2nd room has sound but no vision. Master bedroom only gets channel 7! Has had new owners since 2010. Seem to want to cash in on their investment in addition to trying to charge for kids, WiFi, they have scrimped on a decent B'fast almost entirely. Small loaf of bread in freezer, unsure if fresh or used. No eggs. Tiny pckts of butter only. 2011 have a liquor licence and the Fridge is now stocked as a Mini Bar with so much alchol that would be hard to fit in food for a few days stay or for a family! Also as such, unclear if juice in fridge is complimentary anymore. Have changed from giving a large box of quality chocolates to only four average ones. Recent addition is two complimentary wines (white and red).

Why do we stay? Dunno? Creatures of habit.? More money than brains - maybe!
Perhaps that it is the stunning ocean views when sitting in the lounge or spa that draws us? We have recommended it to friends.

Another thing to mention is that we come to Chocolate Gannets in winter time for the rugged rough ocean and chilly weather so we can use the fireplace. The downside of this is that if you want to eat out, many of the restaurants close over winter - bit of a bummer! I highly recommend Italian place called Casalinga. Apollo Bay Hotel can be ok or average, been lately, was average.

Chocolate Gannets is a small family run business and strives to offer luxury accommodation at a reasonable price. The villas are maintained to a very high standard and all have recently had carpet replaced. It is an established fact that television reception has long been a problem in the area due to location and weather conditions however the recent move to digital has largely overcome this. Our 2 Premium Villas have recently had the lounge TVs upgraded. We are proud of our starter pack which includes the following:-
. 2 x 187ml Bottles of Wine
. Chocolates (hand made by Moorabool Valley)
. Fruit Bowl
. Wicked Muesli
. Multi Grain Loaf of Bread
. Butter and condiments
. Milk
. Juice
. Variety of Tea
. Fully packed Coffee Machine with fresh coffee beans ready to go

After some confusion regarding the tariff for 4 people when booking over the phone as I was not sure why a 2 bedroom villa unit charges extra another $110 for 2 children it was a $500 experience per night in cold Apollo Bay in February. Gannets has all the mod cons including a T-Hub phone (which barked at us as well as emitting ship foghorns sounds during our stay). Complaints: the fridge wasn't cold enough, the tv's didn't work properly picking up interstate and not all Melb channels, coffee machine needed cleaning, breakfast hamper was dull and the furniture in particular tables and chairs are ordinary.
Rooms were very comfortable with a pillow menu and good quality drapes to ensure sleep. The spa is nicely positioned in the middle of the villa with a fine view over the water.
It's a long walk into town which has a good supply of restaurants including La Bimba to make up for the ordinary b'fast hamper. Chris's restaurant at Beacon point was very good.
In summary hard to justify spending over $500 per night with the number of issues I had with the property.
Beware: you should not attempt to swim at the beach in front of Gannets due to the rips and the creek outlet.

Thank you for your comments. The basic tariff includes accommodation for 2 adults and includes a complimentary cleaning. Extra children or adults means extra linen, cleaning, etc. and accordingly are charged at an additional rate. Chocolate Gannets will continue to offer luxury accommodation at a competitive price.

unfortunately i must say dont go to chockolate gaqnnets with a family - surchage of 150 for cleaning even though paid 1000 dollars for two nights. designed for couples only without messy kids. went here 10 years ago and njoyed but now tiored and in need of basic maintinence. I repeat do not take a family or spend at least 4 hours cleaning before you leave so not 5 star anymore

It is the responsibility of guests to declare and pay for additional persons at time of booking. Chocolate Gannets welcomes children and accepts that the villas will be dirty following a stay - however if left in a condition considered to be beyond acceptable an additional cleaning charge is appropriate.

This is a self contain villa. Dont forget to get the combination lock, since no attendance on site.

No clear sign of the place, so people easily missed the site, especially at night.

We loved the place, especially your smart "pillow menu" , which the villas provided us many options.

Nice place.

We stayed at Chocolate Gannets for four nights after a week in Sydney. It was exactly what we needed. We were able to unwind after spending a week in the city, and catch up on the laundry we had accumulated! This condo isn't missing a thing - every type of soap/detergent, all the basics for cooking and breakfast (milk, butter, eggs, oil, fruit) .
We walked on the beach every morning into town (30min walk, flat, very pleasant) and then got lunch in town (we had all the makings for breakfast, supplied by the condo), bought fresh fish at the local fisherman's co-op, and then relaxed on the beach or condo and cooked dinner at home in the evening.

The beds, linens, pillows, spa tub, everything was top notch and made the entire condo very comfortable. We had condo #3 in the back, which I thought was the best because it had great ocean views, but you were sitting out front over looking the GOR. The patios were very private and had nice deck furniture, pillows, umbrellas, grill, swinging bench out front.

These condos are a bit pricey, but they do come well appointed (and they should for the money). It was a worthwhile splurge for us, and we really used the condo and enjoyed being directly across from the beach. If you are there to tour and drive the GOR, I'm not sure it is worth the money. BUT, that being said, I highly recommend it.

My 2nd stay at Chocolate Gannets, didn't disappoint. Don't go out for dinner. Stay in. Great for young families (2nd bedroom has two single beds, also a 2nd bathroom).

PROS:
- spa room, complete with open fireplace, foldaway glass wall to face the open ocean.
- open fireplace.
- very comfortable bed.
- fully equipped kitchen, breakfast provided.

CONS:
- overpriced.
- some things getting a little dated (carpet).

Chocolate Gannets was recommended to us, but we were still blown away by the luxurious, spacious and extremely well fitted out units.
Not needing a key and being able to just drive up and punch in a code was excellent and a very original idea.
From the chocolates, to the basket of goodies for breakfast, to the built in coffee machine, everything was considered to make our stay special.
There were 4 of us and no haggling over bedrooms was necessary. 2 large rooms, each with lovely bathrooms and walk-in robes. Both bathrooms had double basins, granite benches and heated towel rails. The bedrooms had flat screen TV's and lovely ocean views. All products were high quality.
The beach over the road was magic. The walk around the bay along the sand was outstanding, with great variety; from shiny pebbles, to rolling waves, trees, seaweed and a groin.
The position just out of town gave it a rural feel and extra privacy.
Altogether a wonderful stay.
