“A beautiful B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2012

We picked this B & B purely at random from the G O R website. It looked really nice and cosy and an ideal location to stop so that we could see the Fairy Penguins come ashore after sunset. Booking was easily done by email with very prompt relies from Maxine's daughter, Essie. We arrived late afternoon and were greeted by Maxine who is a delightful lady. She showed us around and gave us the choice of rooms as we were the only guests that night. Both rooms were beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom too was very clean with plenty of towels and toiletries. There was a communal room with log fire, television and kettle for tea and coffee. The room was quite large so there would have been plenty of room if there had been other guests. A selection of menus for local restaurants was available which we found very useful. As our main purpose for chosing Port Campbell was the penguins we asked Maxine where the best place was to see them and she was most helpful insisting on lending me a coat as she said it got very cold waiting for them. She was right and I was very grateful! Breakfast next morning, chosen from a menu the night before, was very good and filling with a great selection of jams and marmalades to choose from for our toast.
All in all an excellent B&B and we certainly recommend it anyone travelling the road!

It's been a long time but life and family take over! I find myself writing this from Malta in the Med, but somehow stumbled back onto 'trip advisors' review after advising someone to stay here! You have to stay here to realise that when you do, it may not be tomorrow or next day, or next year........ but you will always look back at Maxines hidden, unassuming home, and hope one day to take your own kids back there!! I am an old romantic, but besides the birth of our daughter Mimi, this was the Best place(hotel, b+b, guest house) i have ever stayed..... and i have travelled! That is saying something! If Maxine ever reads this! Thanks so much for giving us such a great part of our memory of the Great Ocean Road! We will see you again one day, Maxine!

Thanks Maxine

I booked accommodation via phone, Maxine immediately appeared that she was a wonderful generous lady, offering to meet me at the Apostles Visitors centre at the completion of my 5 day Great Ocean Walk. True to her word she phoned me near the completion of my trek concerned re my whereabouts.
Her home was a delightful end to a great trek. I felt totally relaxed and 'at home' in her company. Everything was just fantastic. The breakfast was a rare treat, and wasn't biased from living on track food for the previous few days. Maxime's breakfast was indeed good.
Without hesitation I commend Maxime's B & B to all, especially trekkers looking for that bit of special comfort after days on the track.

We stopped here for a night on a week long tour of the GOR and Grampians. Maxine is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome in her homely and relaxing B&B. We enjoyed sitting in front of the wood-burner reading some of the books about ship wrecks in the living area. You can order breakfast the night before and will be treated to eggs from the owners own hens. We hope to stay here again and would recommend without hesitation to anyone!

This is a fabulous Bed and Breakfast. Maxine is a wonderful hostess, and we enjoyed our stay immensely.

The B & B is less than 15 minutes drive from the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road. It has off-street parking, and is in a very quiet location.

The accommodation is cosy and warm, with a fireplace and many, many curios. There are two bedrooms, each with their own bathroom as well as the shared area. The bed was very comfortable.

Breakfast was a choice of continental or cooked and was delicious. The variety of jams, marmalades and preserves is incredible.

A great place for dinner is the Bombora Beach Bar on the corner of Great Ocean Road and Cairns Street. The food there is delicious and well priced.

It was such a pleasure to meet our host, Maxine, and stay in her lovely house filled with interesting and beautiful reminders of her travels. The living arrangements were ideal for the four of us (my husband & me, my son & his girlfriend): after spending hours walking along the gorgeous coast, we were able to come back and relax by the fire in the sitting room shared by the two bedrooms. Extremely restful and almost like having our own little cottage, but with Maxine there to make us delicious breakfast! Yes, the rooms and the bathrooms are on the small side, but perfectly comfortable, clean, and private, as Maxine lives in her own section of the house. We felt fortunate to stay in a real home rather than a sterile travel accommodation.

Room Tip: You can ask for the larger room.

This wooden house is quaint, cosey and very homely. The guest lounge has TV, a wood burning stove (very hot) and all together very relaxing.
The bedroom was very nice with lots of cotton drapes, bathroom small with shower, sink and toilet.
The owner was very friendly. If you are looking for a homely place to stay this would fit the bill. If you want style and sophistication then look elsewhere.
The cooked breakfast was very good.
