Diamond Forest Farm Stay
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 27 July 2010

We had spent a week at Diamond Forest Cottages, had such a wonderful time that we wish we can stay longer! Both Mark and Jenny are very friendly and helpful, patiently answering our endless questions about the farm and animals, recommending us places of interest to visit.
The cottage is spotless and cozy, the fully equipped kitchen makes cooking a dream. The morning feed was our favourite, especially for city dwellers like us, to be given the opportunity to be close to the lovely animals.
Diamond Forest Cottage is perfect as a base to cover South WA and equally great to just relax and enjoy the tranquility. Highly recommended and we'll defintely be back! Thank you so much for an unforgetable holiday, Mark & Jenny!

We were welcomed warmly by Mark. The cottage was smaller than we expected but more than adequate. Everything we needed was supplied - but we would have preferred larger towels! The location is ideal - right in the middle between Manjimup and Pemberton. Very easy access to wineries and lovely food. Least favourite thing was the water - it tasted very much of iron, still drinkable though. Our favourite things were the lovely warm wood fire, the quietness interrupted only by the sounds of the birds and farm's animals, the bed, which was the most comfortable I've slept in away from home, and the forest, literally across the road where we walked our two dogs along several interesting tracks. All in all a very relaxing time.

This is a most lovely place with rolling green plains and a lovely lake in the middle. The Lavender Cottage we lived in was pleasant and cute. It had all the necessary amenities and privacy. There are only 4 cottages on the farm, and each is nicely tucked away from the other so you get plenty of privacy. There's also a gaming room with air hockey and foosball to play, the kids absolutely loved it. There's also cricket bats and other sporting equipment for play. The surrounding of the cottage is what's incredible. What makes the whole setting complete is the open green fields, the freely roaming chickens and turkeys, the farms animals paddocks which are clearly visible from the cottage and the lovely forest surrounding a part of the farm. At night, its pitch black with the exception of a couple of lighted trees and the dazzling starry night sky. It's really calming to be sitting on the bench on the verandah with a hot cuppa on a chilly night starring into the complete darkness save for the speckled sky. It's gorgeous and so tranquil.

However, what stands out most is the friendliness of Mark and Jenny, the owners of the farm. They're lovely and make you feel right at home and spend plenty of time talking to you and explaining things around the farm if you're interested. The morning walk where the kids and adults get to feed the farm animals is wonderful. The animals are friendly and there are so many different animals to pet and feed (the rabbits we got to cuddle and pet too). They've got chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, a variety of fancy and fluffy looking chickens, an alpaca, a kangaroo, sheep, donkeys and a very photogenic horse. The 3 sheep dogs are awesome and love being petted and playing fetch. The kids had a great time playing with the dogs too.

The place in winter is pretty cool during the day, a decent jacket/sweater should do the job. By 5pm though its dark and a very thick jacket and gloves are necessary if you're stepping out about 4pm. The cottage has a lovely and efficient log fire. The electric blankets kept us nice and warm through the night. They've also got a very decent selection of DVDs both for kids and adults to watch. The DVDs are available for free. The kitchen at the cottage is adequate with a good stove top, microwave oven, plenty of cutlery, bowls, dishes, etc, a medium sized fridge and an efficient BBQ at the back verandah. There are also some citrus trees in front of the cottage, majoram and lavender bushes where you could pick some herbs to cook with.

Overall, this place is fantastic for being so relaxed and tranquil. Time literally stands still and we all felt so human again, back in nature, uncluttered and free, being the way nature meant us to be.

Jenny and Mark are truly wonderful hosts ensuring that any need is met right away. They have a fantastic range of animals: a large race horse (my favourite!), smaller ponies, donkeys (my daughter's favourite!!) , ducks, peacocks and turkeys, chickens, rabbits, goats, sheep, a kangaroo, the world's most friendly alpacca and I'm sure there are even more that I've forgotten!!! The beauty of this farm stay is that it's quite hands-on for the children and they are able to get up-close and personal with all of the animals they wouldn't normally experience in the city. There are guided animal feedings each morning at 9a.m. (not too early) although you are welcome to feed on your own during the day. There are so many other things to do on the property also: canoeing and playing air hockey were our favourites!!

The cottages are immaculately cleaned and comfortable, they instantly feel like home! The cottages are also set far enough apart to still feel secluded and have plenty of grassed area in front for the kids to play with a ball! Our cottage had windows that made the children's room quite dark which was great for nap times. Most of the birds are free range and often visit during the day, but the roosters are are thoughtfully put away in the evenings so they don't disturb you with dawn crowing!! The beds were very new and comfortable for all concerned and the portable cot for our baby was also new. One drawback is the lack of an oven; however, there is a gas stovetop, microwave and BBQ so it is more than manageable. Another note is to remember to bring basic practical kitchen items such as paper towel and cling wrap as these aren't included in the cottages.

The location of the property is fantasctic as it's between Manjimup and Pemberton...about 15mins to each, very convenient. Although it is located right next to the South West highway the property is set back far enough to remain undisturbed by the passing traffic.

We took our two children for a few days on the farm. The farm experience for them was fantastic, fully interactive, whichis wonderful for kids who live in the city.
Mark and Jenny who run the farm stay were delightful and made sure all our needs were met. This is a great place to stay for people with young kids (under twelve) who will love the whole farm experience.

Top value for money - the cabins are clean, warm and lovely and you are getting more than a place to stay, you are getting an experience.

Definitely would recommend to anyone wishing to get out of the hussel and bussel for a little while.
