Almadraba Park Hotel
Ranked #3 of 37 Hotels in Roses
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 11 October 2010

Having read other encouraging review on Tripadvisor we made an easy and convenient reservation on the Almadraba Park Hotel website. We had an El Bulli reservation (5 years of applying!) and were not disappointed in the the food or this hotel.

The hotel is a little dated (think 70's/80's architecture) but is very clean (spotless) and all the furniture and finishings are high quality - more Swiss style than Spanish. The Property is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2010...

Breakfast buffet was tasty and you have the option of dining "al fresco" on their patio with wonderful Mediterranean and Mountain views. (Reminder this is where the Smokers must sit...)

Very nice and helpful concierge; they don't brag about it, but Salvador Dali stayed here for a time in the 70's and they have the autograph/signatures to prove it.

After driving around Roses and looking at the other properties in this area, we will be ONLY staying here if we are able to get another El Bulli reservation in 2011 before the restaurant closes.

We didn't dine at their restaurant, but it looked good and would be worth a try if you had a free lunch/dinner. (We dined at Can Fabes - Sant Ceoni for lunch the meal after El Bulli...another Michelin Three Star and top 20 dining experience in the world) it is about one hour closer to Barcelona on Highway AP-7.

If you have free time, you might also visit the Roman Ruins of Eupheria...wonderful archiological town that is being excavated and has a nice museum with some fantastic Roman Mosaics. Gives you a historical and strategic military context for this region from around 200 BC...

We have just got back from a 5 day stay at the Almadraba. The hotel and the beautiful gardens were absolutely spotlessly clean. The staff friendly, efficient and always there when needed. Food and wine exceptional, expertly served.
My favourite - the pool - salt water, semi olimpic size and 1.20 metres all over, so no "deep end" for us not so good swimmers to worry about!

+ve's.
Spotlessly clean.
Fabulous restaurant although if on half board be prepared for a very authentic spanish menu in terms of choices. My rather squeamish teenage son sometimes struggled to identify something sufficiently conventional.
Delightful staff on the whole.
Serious, courteous and professional owner/manager was ever present overseeing a very slick operation.
Stunning location, pool, terrace, pool bar and lovely gardens.
Discretely stylish.

-ve's
Bar and restaurant staff soon learn your room number so nothing needs signing for. Therefore when presented with the bill after a few days it is impossible to know what all the charges relate to and several of my brandies in the bar were obviously incredibly expensive. I assume it was the brandies!
Restaurant doesn't open in the evening until 8.30 pm so be prepared to eat late. But heh you're in Spain.
It's kind of quiet with little going on in the evening and not much else around.
Lots of steps so not suitable if mobility is a problem

We have been going to this hotel for a number of years. Its location is stunning. This year it celebrated its 40th anniversary and the hotel has always been popular with many different nationalities. The staff speak several languages and you cannot find more pleasant and helpful and professional staff anywhere.

Set on a promitory overlooking the Mediterranean the hotel sits in its own beautifully manicured grounds with loungers set amongst the trees where you can take in the sea breeze and while away the day with a good book if you so wish. The swimming pool, I believe, is olympic size and you can face your lounger to look out to sea. Anyway it is the best pool I have ever had occasion to swim in. There is a bar/kitchen area at the pool for refreshments. Steps from this area lead you down to a lovely white sandy.

There is a terrace bar to have your evening drinks at and the dining room is light and airy with an outside terrace where you can have your breakfast.

The rooms are immaculate if somewhat bare and the bathrooms very modern. Choose a room overlooking Roses Bay and you can see the fishing boats coming in early evening and going out early morning.

We spent one night in this hotel in May. We were graciously upgraded to a premium room with a fantastic ocean view.

The rooms are quite adequate and comfortable, but the 1970s hair dryer is a window into the slightly dated nature of the entire hotel. Rooms don't automatically lock from the outside, the color scheme is a retro Danish minimalist teak, which is pleasant but leaves the room a little sparse. The view, however, will make up for it all.

The bar terrace and the grounds are expansive and lovely. There is a descent to a rocky private swimming area and further to a sandy, curvy beach.

I would skip the restaurant in favor of something in Roses. Sadly, El Bulli is now closed.

We stayed at the Almadraba Park because we had reservations to El Bulli and it appeared to be the closest hotel to the restaurant. They staff made it clear that many of their guests stay because of El Bulli so they were helpful in booking a cab for us to take us there, and letting us know how early we should leave to get there. Given we had booked the hotel solely because of its proximity to the restaurant, I hadn't really thought about what else to expect from the hotel itself and we were happily surprised with how much we enjoyed our day there. The hotel is beautifully designed and clean. It isn't is a row of identical looking hotels, it is perched by itself and looks more like a little resort. The views from the garden, the pool, the terrace and of course the rooms, are all spectacular. You can see the water, the mountains, the beach and it all looks gorgeous. There is cute outdoor garden where you can sit outside and order lunch. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub, which were elevated and had gorgeous views surrounding them. And the beach was a short walk down the stairs built into the hill. The room was clean and modern, with a spacious bathroom, and a nice balcony to lounge on. We asked to be moved to a room with a straight-on view of the ocean and it was a stunning view. We were only in Roses for our El Bulli meal (which was spectacular) for one day and night, in between four days in Barcelona and four days in Paris, and it turned out to be an amazingly relaxing mini-beach vacation day in the middle of our busy city-tour vacations. We definitely want to come back here again.

We stayed here during our trip to dine at El Bulli restaurant for two nights. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, and spoke great English. We opted for the standard room, but had a peak at the ocean view rooms and they looked AMAZING. However, you can still see the beach from the balcony, I think every room has a nice balcony.

Breakfast was included and had a great selection of fruit, cereal, cured meats, pastries and bakery items. I did not have a chance to try out the hotel restaurant.

The pool is just in front of the horizon, and the location of the bar just before sunset was magical too. The beach is only 5 mins away when you walk down the stairs at the back of the hotel so we chose to swim in the ocean instead of the pool.

My only complaint was that the mattresses were very very firm!

Parking is free and everywhere was easy to get around with a car.
