“Sunset views were wonderful”

We arrived too late to hike Thompson Trail as planned, so we headed over to the shorter 1 mile Mogollon Rim Trail. We arrived close to sunset and the views were just amazing. I'd actually recommend arriving about an hour and a half before sunset. That will give you time for great photos and to hike the 1 mile walking trail. The trail is very easy, has markers and our experience was only marred by a mountain biker who was apparently training his technical skills as he did "laps" on the 1 mile loop, yelling "INCOMING" every time he passed us at high speed. Annoying...but the sunset pics were worth it!

I agree with another recent reviewer that this park/trail is showing its age. But the views are amazing. In addition, the "aging" signage is very helpful in understanding the Rim, how it came into being, and the plant life that is at that altitude.

t's not a long trail, so you can visit for 30 minutes or a few hours. Well worth a stop if you have time.

Ponderosa pines and alligator junipers are the primary flora (we had never seen an alligator juniper, previously). Gentle, easy slopes, a short bridge, and views that go forever over the forest at the canyon rim. Beautiful site.

The trail is a bit beat. The signs are beginning to fall apart. However the views along the rim are spectacular.

This is an interesting little hike along the Mogollon Rim with beautiful views and educational signs along the way. It is about a mile and slightly uphill in some parts. I wonder why they didn't finish it. It leaves you to either turn around and go back on the paved way you came or find your own way in the dirt. That was odd.
