We stayed at Checkers for just one night as we had a wedding at the nearby Miramare Gardens. The room was stylishly renovated with the BEST shower head I have ever used (one of those giant square heads). The room was clean, quiet as were the gardens and resort grounds. The staff were friendly and check in/out was quick and easy.

Room Tip: Room 37 had the amazing shower head!

Stayed one night in excellent refurbished room, comfortable bed, very good evening meal, initially worried about traffic noise but not a problem at all..... highly recommended.

Stayed for two nights and found the the resort comfortable and clean. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment with the Continental being a bit sparse in choice. Cereal, fruit tinned plums or pears, yoghurt, and toast, tea or coffee and fruit juice. Croissants and some fresh fruit would have been good. The resort has a pool, tennis court, and a not very exciting dinner menu. The grounds are lovely as is the dining area. About 45mins from the city out of peak hour. Close to the Northern Beaches and a cheaper option to the beach side suburbs accommodation. Near to several Clubs and restaurants for dining options. I would stay there .

Room Tip: We had an upper floor room on the side away from the main road and found quiet. Two Queen beds in...

Excellent clean room, good pool area, good dining area for breakfast, good service. Only problem was the bed and the front rooms were noisy from Mona Vale Road. Ask for the back rooms. All up would go back again to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the back rooms away from the main road

my husband my teenage daughter and I stayed for 3 nights. we got 2 king beds. fairly large room with 2 comfortable chairs. lovely surrounding garden, quiet vicinity. gym times were restricted for us as public used it as well. shower screen was very small and water was spilling out. had to be careful while showering. simple room and quite comfortable and served our purpose.

We have used this resort for a number of business functions/all day conferences as we have a number of staff who fly in from interstate and this resort is near our Head Office
Whilst there is an issue with no lift if you can book one of the ground floor rooms that have been renovated they are great. Comfy beds, good size TV, great bathrooms, and parking onsite.
The breakfast is very basic and the lunch is adequate for a business function. We dont eat here for dinner as we usually head into Dee Why or Manly which are a 15 - 20 minute drive away and eat on the esplanade there which is beautiful
Staff are helpful and found us additional wine glasses and ice for a late night debrief

Room Tip: get a ground floor room as no lift

Friends were getting married at a nearby function centre and Checkers was just a short distance away and very convenient so, despite the mixed reviews we decided to book a "newly renovated spacious room".

Upon arrival it was obvious that renovations had been taking place with dirty dusty carpets in the hallways and spots of paint and other evidence of building. Of course the smell of renovations was evident although not in the room. It is advertised as a "spacious room" and while the decor and fittings including the carpet were obviously new, spacious was not a word I would have used. Same size as an ordinary motel room and in fact smaller than many we've stayed in. The bathroom was adequate although not overly big, but the soap holder in the shower recess was falling off the wall. The bathroom itself is up a small 2 inch step from the main room floor level and is hard to see in the dark. Someone is going to miss the step and fall is my guess.

The very small refrigerator is in a cupboard and contained 2 wrapped glasses... not that a mini bar is an essential but at least a jug of cold water would be nice instead of a half empty ice container. Not even a couple of those long life milk sachets.

What is it with Australian motels and their towels not much bigger than a face-washer? I know this resort has it's own laundry so why not provide decent size towels. And speaking of which, why not an extra towel for the ladies who want to wash their hair? It's not that hard to go that extra little bit to make a stay above an ordinary motel.

We noticed they had provided a spray can of mosquito repellent. You are gonna need it! The buzzing of mosquitoes almost kept us awake all night. Just the thought of them makes sleep uneasy... and we have stayed at all levels of accommodation in most of Asia and India so we have slept under nets but you don't expect the annoying things in a so-called up-market Australian resort.

We didn't use the in-room Internet connection which is not free. This is another rip-off that Australian hotels and motels insist on regardless that most hotels in SE Asia provide free WiFi.

For our purpose the location was fine but the experience was very disappointing and with a bit of attention Checkers could be so much more. The surrounding sites are spectacular and Checkers should be an ideal base if they can get their act together.
