I recently went to Galley with my Girlfriend to celebrate our anniversary and we couldn't have had a better time! Everything from the suites and idyllic beach to the quality of the food and especially the service! Ibor, the customer service manager, was particularly fantastic and extremely accommodating.

I'll be back next year!

Upon approaching our room (number 24 Premium Beachfront Suite), the first thing we noticed was how tired it appeared, with the entire door jam pulling away from the door. The room itself was spacious, with a huge bathroom and a double shower. The view from our balcony was amazing.
As my wife was beginning to unpack in the bathroom, she found hair on the sink. This resulted in a thorough search which resulted in finding numerous additional hairs throughout the bathroom. The bathtub drain was covered in rust and fungus. And we had to hold the toilet flusher down for the entire water cycle or it would not drain. My wife immediately called guest services to report our findings, and they assured us they would follow up with a deep cleaning. They did not that day, rather they sent us a bottle of wine instead, I assume hoping to appease us. The next morning, I used the in room coffee maker and discovered that it wasn't working properly. Coffee dripped everywhere. (And when housekeeping arrived each day was extremely inconsistent. Twice before 9:30 am and mostly after 3:30 pm. And I had to call twice to have the mini fridge restocked.)
As others have mentioned, other than part of breakfast, all meals were ala carte. Our first breakfast was good, with very nice omlets. The mini buffet sufficed if you got there early, otherwise the pickings were slim..
We arrived the day after tropical storm Issac had blown through, so the water was churned up, sandy, and not clear. No snorkling. But the green flag flew most days we were there, and by the end of our visit the water cleared up and the snorkling was great. Very good right off the beach by the restaurant Ismays.
The main bar, which was the only one open most of the day (the Tiki bar) was never busy, in fact the whole resort never felt busy. Because we were there during the off season, not all of the main three restaurant's were open every day or night. My wife commented that we needed an Excel spreadsheet to keep straight which were open for lunch and which for dinner. We ate at the Sea Grape most nights, where the food was only "good", not five star. The selection of entree's was standard: meat, fish, chicken, vegetarian, or lobster (at a premium). Four out of six nights our orders were not quite right. We were able to attend the Thurs night outdoor bbq. Limited selection. The ribs very dry.
But, the food at the Barefoot Grill (open noon to 4:30) was delicious! A bright spot in a rather ordinary resort cuisine.
The staff was for the most part friendly, but at times we felt like an imposition rather than a welcome guest. Mostly from the bartenders, and definitely from the gift shop staff.
The resort was populated with an older crowd. Definately not a Sandals feel. As I mentioned, it never felt busy, and it was very quiet. In fact in the pool area (nice pool) the chairs were never even half occupied.
Once the water cleared up, we snorkeled. The watersports included hobie cats, kayaks, paddleboards and float toys. The water was warm, the beach was fantastic (a few rocks close to shore) and the swimming was great.
I know this review is mostly negative, but there were a few bright spots. The grounds were stunning. The sheer tropical feel was better than at any island resort we have stayed. The variety of flowers and plants was amazing, and the grounds keepers were always working to keep it that way. The view of the bay, especially at sunset, was spectacular.
But it was still a three star experience. Average food, mostly indifferent staff, dated (and dirty) rooms. Would we recommend - not at the price paid. Will we return, no.

We have just returned from a ten night stay at Galley Bay...our first visit to this resort...and are pleased to confirm that the resort met our expectations and is justified by all the good reviews left by previous guests.
The food was good,varied and well cooked, the staff, needless to say were excellent.
In our opinion the room was probably the best room that we have encountered in the Caribbean ....Beachfront luxury premier and led directly onto the beach, the biggest bathroom with a huge bath and separate shower that we've ever had on any holiday.
The guest services were very helpful, when,without realising that my wife was awaiting a hip operation, located us at a room on the far end on the beach...a long walk to the restaurants etc. this proved difficult so they moved us to a room much closer to the centre which was appreciated.
When we go on beach holidays we enjoy swimming in the sea, one problem ( for us for the reason above) is the drop off as you enter the water, literaly from entering the water you drop sharply four feet deep, this could have spoiled our holiday..except for the very kind watersports guys who gave us a hand getting back out onto the beach. We had a little backlash from Hurricane Isaac, luckily downgraded to storm but unsettled the sea a little and created the difficulty getting in and out. On these days the red flag was out so we used the excellent pool.
We would like to say thank you to all the staff ...as mentioned in previous reviews..they are a credit to this resort.
The gardens are beautiful well looked after with a variety of flowering shrubs and palm trees.
We would certainly go back to Galley Bay, the holiday was very relaxing...our reason for going!

I selected Galley Bay Resort & Spa with the understanding that this was an 'adults only' resort. I wanted a more relaxed atmosphere for this trip. I was a little skeptical of selecting an 'all-inclusive' package, but my concerns were completely unfounded. The resorts, its ocean views and secluded location were welcomed and excellent. The service, staff, room and amenities well either top-notch or above average.

1. Public Facilities:

The resorts facilities were fine. After about a 35 minute drive from the airport you are in the heart of Five Islands Village - that drive, unfortunately, is not particularly scenic. You reach the guarded entrance and are led to the in check lobby. After check-in, you're escorted in a golf cart past a large 'fishing pond' (during our stay it was being restocked with fish and water and didn't look or smell very pleasant - but those issues never rose again during the stay. In fact, the resort is stock with flora from all over the world as well as a small turtle sanctuary. The paths of the resort were a pleasire to walk - beautiful!

The Pool was good sized with a rock waterfall and more than enough umbrella tables, lounge chairs as wellTowels were always available as well as

The small concierge/bell hop area is in the middle of the resort, but boasts a view that is pretty spectacular. This general area has a Diamonds International, Spa, Coffee Shop/Library, Gift Shop and bike rentals (free).

2. Private Facilities & Quarters

The room suite had both front and back porches. Being on ground level and requesting an ocean-view was simply the best decisions. The interior was incredibly clean. The fixtures were up to date with an out sized bathroom that included not only a large jacuzzi styled tub but separate His/Her showers. The bed and linen were fresh, soft and high quality. Our view was of the ocean with sliding patio doors to let in the experience. The room utilized regular keys and a standard in close safe. The television was smallish 32" but swiveling and well placed.

The Spa (by wife) was very relaxing. I was concerned because the fish pond was close by - yet neither the sight or smell was noticed or became an issue. The Spa is made up of several outside huts. The sounds of the waves crashing made relaxing so much easier. I enjoyed a multiple hour massages and even convinced the husband to have a couple's massage. His smile after told me he really enjoyed it. I am a Spa/Message regular at home and this was a great experience.

The beach was beautiful. It does not suffer from seaweed (it is the westside of the island) and almost appears to be combed by the management. The adult nature of the resort meant that there wasn't any kids running around or aimless teenagers. It was easy to walk the beach undisturbed. The waves remained enticing, romantically soft and constant.

2. Staff

The staff were professional and very pleasant. They made genuine efforts to make sure you're every need is met. It is possible to go to locations were the high salaries paid to staff will guarantee better personnel, but at this location the staff appeared to truly enjoy serving the guests. The small beach side bar had multiple staff who made sure no glass was empty. The onsite restaurants were the same.

3. Services

Room service was as expected. The food arrived timely and it was evident that effort was made in its preparation and presentation.

4. Location

The location is in Five Islands Village. You will NOT be walking of the resort for sight-seeing (unless farm aminals and wild dogs are what you want to see). Because the area is also hilly, you are able to make out a few of local mansions in the area, but again YOU ARE NOT WALKING THERE.

Sea Grape Restaurant & Bar:

This will be your everyday breakfast location and probably most used dinner location. The breakfast included buffet offerings as well as menu offerings (their pancakes were pretty tasty). For dinner, there selection was fine and actually tasty. The lobster and other seafood flowed none stop. This is also the location where the musical entertainment was held (giving you sitting on the boardwalk)

Barefoot Grill:

This is your small grill hut for light lunch or snacks. The offerings are much better tasting then you would expect, but you have to be adventurous enough to try them. The Cajun fish sandwich quickly became a lunch staple.

The Gauguin:

Please have at least one dinner meal here. The service is great as usual and they make a great effort to personalize your meal to your exact wishes.

Ismay's Restaurant:

You must book a beachfront dinner as soon as you arrive. They set up the table right at the water's edge and you dine with the setting sun or rising moon (depending on time of day/month). The food choices were great and preparation was a step above. You must do this at least once, especially since it is not open everyday.

Room Tip: Ask where you room is located in reference to the Rum Shack Bar. That is pretty much the middle of the resort and you will be surprised how spread out the resort is. If you're a walker - it is not a problem - but I see why the staff uses golf carts to get around and why bike rentals are free.

Room Tip: They do have incredible 'secluded' rooms. However, they are far from the beach have no views (and are too close to the fish pond).

My husband and I have stayed at a handful of different all inclusive resorts on different islands. We always book adults only ones.

However we both found Galley Bay to be our favorite. It is extremely private and quiet. Un obstructed views of the ocean, glistening sunsets and ultimate romance describes this place. It is not busy or crowded, nor the type of place to “party”.

Rooms: we stayed in #25 superior beachfront. It has a large bathroom with double sinks, sunken tub and duel shower heads. Plenty of room for your belongings.
Comes with a coffee maker and fridge which is stocked daily. Floor to ceiling doors that open up to your own private furnished patio with direct access to the water.
The room is cleaned every morning.

Property grounds: clean and quiet. There is a pool, tennis and volleyball available also a very well air conditioned gym.

Dining: breakfast is in the main dining area, never crowded no lines. Lunch is offered at the barefoot grill (quesadillas cheeseburger etc available). Or the Guagine for seaside private meals. Dinner is offered at both sites and on selected nights “Ismays” for additional price.

We ate at all locations loved our morning made to order omelets watching the sun rise. All meals were fantastic, did not have a single meal that wasn’t 4 Star. Plenty of food you never go hungry.

Evenings have light entertainment from different local bands, very low key and enjoyable.

The resort does not offer beach drink service , however I think this adds to the perfect romantic ambiance. No one walking by or distraction from being relaxed. There is pool service and bars open most of the time. We did not drink very much we were too involved with the beautiful surroundings.

We did not go on any excursions the property had everything we wanted, If you kayak around the right side of the resort there is a private empty beach with calm waters great for snorkeling. We saw sting rays and sea turtles.

The water is perfect temperature and the waves were not bad at all I layed on a float and napped.

We chose to renew our vows the staff went above and beyond for us. I would even recommend this place for first time wedding seekers it’s the ideal location.

We also had a couples massage the day prior to departure it was wonderful way to end our trip.

Overall the resort is truly amazing I highly recommend couples to go and just get away from life and do nothing for a week. We do not ever go to the same place twice however I am extremely considering returning.

And the staff are very professional and courteous. I Do not have single negative thing to say about this resort.
