My wife and I were on an "island hopping" thru the Cyclades, focusing on less touristed islands and those with the best hiking opportunities. First stop: Sifnos. First decision: stay at a beach (either in Kamares in the north, or Platis Gialos or Vathy in the south), of more centrally in either Apollonia or Artemos. We chose Apollonia since its the nexus of all bus routes, but were doubly rewarded by our choice of lodging: Petali Village. From transfer from the port, the comfort of our room, to the breakfast buffet and poolside lunch availability, we couldn't have asked for more or better.
Rula (who seemed to be the main mgr.) and all the staff were wonderful, with every part working together as a well-oiled machine.
We had chosen a Jr. Suite (which I came to understand is their only jr. suite -- I believe Rm. #17) ; great balcony; great view; great A/C when you need it).
We came to discover that club sandwiches are a common lunchtime offering in the islands. I can attest that those prepared at Petali are the very best we had on ANY island.
Getting back to location: unless you have a car , being at the central point for buses is important. But you'll also be within easy walking distance of many more of the better dining locations.
All in all, we offer a very high recommendation of Petali Village.More
