Owner description: Hradek, mentioned already in 1312, is a fortified castle palace of the town type. Nowadays it is the seat of the main exposition of the Czech Museum of Silver. The museum offers two guided tours and the main attraction is a visit to an authentic medieval silver mine.

There are two tours in one. Coin makers' activities are very interesting. The royal palace had its place in history. State visits, signing Decrees, important decisions. Gothic and renaissance jewel.

This is not the reason to visit Kutna Hora, but it does flesh out the history of this area, as the silver mines made Kutna Hora the place that minted coinage hundreds of years ago. It's OK at best (my tour just included the museum, nothing in the mines themselves) but it rounds out the story you learn about Kunta Hora when you visit.

Don't get me wrong, a tour to the Museum of Silver is very informative, and it gives you a lengthy historical background to Kutna Hora; however, when compared to other sites in the city such as the main cathedral or the bone church, it does not stack up. Our tour guide took us here calling it a must see, but there really wasn't much worth coming for. The building itself is austere and not really an architectural wonder. Furthermore, the exhibits inside, although informative, were not that interesting (perhaps because I personally don't find coin minting to be an enthralling subject). I would only come if you have extra time in the city and if you really want to learn in depth about Kutna Hora's history

Kutna Hora has an important silver mining history hundreds of years old. The 1.5 hour tour is a must, however not recommended to people with claustrophobia, obesity or anxiety as there is a steep climb down deep into the mining shaft and then 250 meters walking through a very narrow dark mine shaft. The visitors are given a mining coat and a helmet with a head lamp, one guide stays in the front of all visitors and one stays in the back for safety. Fairly fast paced.
