“I've selfish reasons for not wanting this lovely hotel to be too well-known!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2012

This was my very first trip to Prague and when my wife and I return I have no doubt we'll stay at the Red Lion Hotel again. The staff was friendly, spoke English, and very helpful in every way. On a curious note, one doesn't check in directly at the Red Lion, but must walk up Nerudova Street about 200 feet to register at the Golden Star Hotel.

What makes this hotel special is the fact that there are only seven rooms and no two are furbished alike. We had a very spacious room filled with beautiful antique furniture on the top floor facing Nerudova Street. At first we were concerned by possible street noise for there are lots of hotels situated on this street but the street is deserted after dark and is extremely quiet.

The location couldn't be better! Very close to the Prague Castle, but also walking distance to the Charles Bridge and the famous Cathedral and square. The hotel's exterior is so colorful and inticing we found tourists staying at other hotels across the street stopping to take pictures of the Red Lion.

The only reason I could see that someone wouldn't want to stay either in this cozy, quaint and very romantic hotel is because Nerudova Street is quite steep and the Red Lion has no lift. We found it no problem to walk the stairs but someone with knee or hip problems could find both the street and the hotel a challenge.

Last but not least, our rates were fantastic for a four-night stay. The place is a bargain...at least in shoulder season.

Hence my reluctance in reviewing this hotel...I want it all for myself all year round!

Nice hotel situated in historic part, close to the beautiful Prague's Castle. The atmosphere is warm and the staff is friendly. As It's situated almost on the top of the hill ,i do not recommend for people with limited abilities. Nice hotel to feel the real life in old Prague.

This was an amazing hotel! There are only great things to say about Red Lion. The room was extremely spacious, we stayed in Room 21, and it had a queen bed plus a sitting area with a full lounge. We had a great view of Nerudova St, which was beautiful. It was in the most convenient location, about a 5-7 minute walk to Prague Castle and a 15-20 walk to the Old Town Square across Charles Bridge. There are so many wonderful places to eat, you can't go wrong with your choice of restaurant. The reception is in the Golden Star hotel (Red Lion's sister hotel), which is about a 100m walk up Nerudova St, so you check in there first and then get taken to Red Lion. Everyone at the hotel was extremely lovely and so helpful. There is no lift, but there are not many levels. Breakfast was average, bread, cheese, sliced meats, cereals, juices and tea/coffee. It was enough to start the day on though.

Red Lion was so affordable and it made our stay in Prague so pleasant, we will definitely stay again in the future.

My friend and I stayed at the Red Lion for two nights last week. It was very good value for the price, especially in the heart of Prague. The location in Mala Strana is terrific. You are just steps from the castle and many charming shops, pubs and restaurants and a five minute walk to Charles Bridge. Unless you want to be next to the bridge or the main square with the hoards, this location is really the best. The rooms are beautiful old style Prague with intricate painted ceilings. Both rooms and bathrooms were spotless. Be sure to ask for extra blankets and pillows as this does not seem to be the tradition always in Cz. Our room faced the courtyard and was completely quiet. Price includes a basic and tasty breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel during our recent visit to Prague. We had a large, clean room overlooking the city street. If you are planning to go to bed early then request a courtyard room away for the street side (front of hotel). The bathroom was large and the shower was great water pressure and fluffy towels. The breakfast was good, basic European meats, cheese, rolls, coffee was execellent. Free internet that actually worked in the room, lobby and outside.

Price was reasonable for this time of year. Would stay again. Also exchange you money at the desk they gave the best rate in town with no fee's.

Room Tip: if you plan for an early night - ask for the courtyard rooms, back of hotel

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for a short break. On arrival the staff were friendly and checking in was relatively straightforward. Our room on the top floor was enormous, clean and had a good view of the castle. It also had a TV with lots of channels (which was useful as it rained almost continuously whilst we were there!), mini bar and free wi fi. For a hotel in this price range you cannot ask for much more in my opinion.

Breakfast was the usual European affair - a selection of fruit, cereals, meats, cheese and yoghurts. Standard fare for a hotel, nothing special but certainly good enough to set you up for the morning.

One of the hotel's best attributes is its location. It's just minutes from the castle and there are plenty of reasonable bars, cafes and restaurants within an easy 5 minute stroll. The centre is a very pleasant 20 minute walk away (up hill on the way back!) across the river which means most of the main attractions are within easy reach.

We visited the red lion hotel for a family short break to prague - reception was excellent, a very friendly and warm welcome. We entered our room on the top floor and it was very clean, the wooden floors and furnishings were very clean and well polished throughout the room - as we went to look for the second bedroom we went along a narrow corridor (which was also the way to the bathrooms which were fully tiled and very clean) and found the second bedroom it was a very large room - both rooms had plenty storage and drawers for all your clothes etc. Included in the room was a well stocked mini bar - which is chargable if you use it. The breakfast did not have a very good selection and let the hotel down - however a cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs was available on request (on our next visit i would do room only and go out for breakfast as there is a better choice in cafes). The location of the hotel in Prague is at the top of the hill a few minutes walk from the castle, and approx a 20 minute walk to the centre of town. There are plenty of cafes and bars all around the hotel and all over the city catering for all nationalities. The area is very quite at night, bars open until the early hours for those who prefer an all night party! Free wi-fi included - kids enjoyed this as they could get on line on apps etc.

Room Tip: The family room we had was excellent - i would recomend room 31 for a family
