“A Pleasant Experience”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

This was booked as a budget hotel. Although quite basic it was 100% adequate. The checking in/out was simple with helpful staff and the room facilities were good. Bathroom appeared very new. Breakfast was a hot/cold buffet and was fine. Although a fair walk to the central sights of prague the tram stop was only a couple of minutes walk and the service on the trams is top class.

Room Tip: Room 3 good!

I booked this hotel through a flight and hotel package and was given a choice of only 2-3 hotels so I chose Bily Lev as being closest to the centre. So I am not even sure how much we paid for the hotel but I guess it was quite a low price. After reading the reviews in TA I was prepared that the hotel was nothing special but I was sort of puzzled that some people praised it and some people gave it one out of five. After staying at the hotel I can explain this discrepancy. We had two double rooms next to each other. One of the rooms was quite good (not perfect but good enough for a budget hotel), and its bathroom was renovated, while the other room was very narrow and its bathroom did not seem renovated and smelt bad. So my advise would be: if you are staying in this hotel and you do not like your room, ask for another room.
The location of the hotel: it's not really within walking distance of the city centre but the public transport is very convenient: bus stop reached by walking down the street and tram stop reached by walking up the street. In both cases it's 3-4 stops from the major sights. The location of the hotel is also good because there are plenty of good and affordable pubs and restaurants in the neighborhood and in all of them the prices are 2-3 times lower than the prices in the city centre.
The people at the reception were very helpful and kind. The breakfast was good, though not varying. No internet in the rooms. Tea and coffee making possible in the room at no charge.
What I liked most about the hotel: the beds were very comfortable.
What I liked least: some of the sheets and towels should have been discarded long ago.

Hotel is located in quiet street next to Police station :)) Hotel, itself is not bad, it`s just for leaving luggage, taking shower and sleeping 4-5 houres....nothing more. The rooms are old, bedclothes is gray and with little holes, bathroom is too small, it`s very difficult to have normal water it`s too cold or too hot. Prague is great and you will remember nice places but not hotel. Good trip to all!

Arrived before check in time, but was given room from friendly helpful staff straight away.
Hotel is no frills but clean with free breakfast. Great variety of food for a low budget hotel. Recommended to anyone wanting a cheap hotel to stay.

The interior is old and worn, and not in a stylish way either, just old and dated. The interior of our room and most of the hotel was in a ghastly peach-colour directly painted on the stone wall. TV is minimal. Refrigerator is of ok size, but not cold enough. Windows were newly fitted and the bathroom is recently refurbished, but only to a very basic standard. So forget about luxury if you want to stay here. The location is quiet during the night even if you have a room facing the street. Free Internet computer in the lobby, but it's really dirty and old.
The staff at reception were all helpful and informative, nothing to complain about there. Cleaning was good. Breakfast was not too exciting but filling the day we managed to get up to try it.
The best part of the hotel is the price and the location in Ziskov a very genuine part of town which your grandmother might find too rough on the edges but has a certain charm to anyone not too snobby. The centre of the town is reached by tram. Five minutes to the tram station and then maybe 6-7 minutes to Vaclavska Nám which is in the centre and where you can switch to the metro if needed.

the hotel at the bottom of a hill, but not very steep.the city is a walk upthe hill then three tram stops to wensaslas square.Get the number 9. they are usually crammed like sardines, but it all adds to the fun of a tram ride. A 24hour ticket is 100KC and you can travel on any tram. the hotel was clean enough, but the rooms were in desperate need of refurbishing. the shower was good and the water hot. the twin bed was comfy enough, but the pillows left a lot to be desired, and the sheets in one of the rooms was so thin, it was torn. Don't get a room by the road. People seemed to hang about there, and the noise was annoying. the streets are cobbled so the cars sound like trams going up and down all night. Get a room by the garden.. no noise there. No bar in the hotel, but a really cool bar right next door. The Tiki Taki bar is well worth a visit, and there are plenty of places to eat near the hotel. Food was good wherever we went.I would recommend the hotel, as it was cheap, and if you're only sleeping there, it's ideal. Breakfast was very good. Just the usual ham, cheese, bread and cereals. all the juice you could drink, plus tea and coffee(which was specially nice) Didn't see many staff, but the reception staff were very helpful. The city is well worth a visit. A truly amazing place.

A friend and I arrived at Hotel Bily Lev on 06/08/10 at 20:30pm and to our surprise we were told by the receptionist that due to system error we have to be relocated to Hotel Aida (situated in Kobylis). However we accepted the offer but the attitude of the receptionist IVY was very unprofessional, rude and extremely arrogant. At one point she even shouted at us, her exact words being ‘what do you want me be do, get the people out of the room’!!!! There were no apologies and explanation to why the relocation had to take place. All she kept repeating was 'system error'!!! We had booked this hotel 3 weeks in advance and did not understand why no one had contacted us with regards to the room/hotel change before we arrived to check-in!!! If you have our details why wait till we arrive at the hotel? Absolutely ridiculous…

Apart from the terrible start, Hotel Bily Lev from the inside appeared quite filthy and I would not say this is 3*. It was more of a 2* and there were loads of teenagers/student. This place had a feel of hostel, looked a bit dirty, quite noisy and the area wasn’t too pleasant either. In the reception we came across few young girls, who were complaining about bed bugs in their room and had bites all over their legs. In a way we were happy to be transferred to Hotel Aida, which was clean but a bit far out (5 train stops to Central).

If I had the chose I will not recommend Hotel Bily Lev to anyone, I personally think the reviews below are deceiving.
