“The Centre of Prague You Want To Be In”

We stayed a week on our first visit to Prague & thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this apartment. It is not in the touristic centre of Prague (Old Town & Wenceslas Sq.) but on Naemesti Miru, a square 3 metro stops from Old Town. It basically means you are in a quieter and nicer area of Prague with everything you could want within a few blocks and easy access to all 3 metro lines (station is about 100 steps from apartment building) and tram stop (multiple routes) is about 1/2 block. From airport you take the express bus to first metro station (Dejvic) & then metro line A directly to apartment - easy. We departed by train and it was easier - one stop to change lines and one stop to train station. Metro is simple & scale easy to work with. Frequency on metro/tram/bus excellent so we covered a lot of Prague.
Althought our arrival was late (10:30 p.m.) we were met upon arrival at apartment building by owner and given keys and tour of apartment - all questions answered. Nice touch to leave chocolates upon arrival. Apartment in older building, there is a lift but only 2 floors up so used stairs. Excellent instructions for all items required. Some good reading/tour books in english. Kitchen & bathroom recently updated along with appliances and flat screen TV. Excellent. Only one problem all week - fuse went shutting down some of functions in apartment- texted owner and response within 15 mins. & sorted out. The apartment is spacious with high ceilings - some personalized decorative touches and very functional. Bed was excellent and towels etc. dropped off mid-week. The location was as good as the accommodation - a winner on both items. On our next trip to Prague this would be the place for us. A tip for touring North Americans - if you are hostelling around Europe - Prague is the place you want to drop the hostel and go upscale as it is very reasonable - great value and so much better than bunking!! Centre of Prague Apartment is the place for you (and us!).

“A luxury apartment in a great location - book it now!”

Just go - I can't recommend this apartment highly enough. It's in a great location, it's beautifully done-up with attention to the tiniest detail, and the owners are lovely. Plus it's currently ludicrously underpriced. I know this review is going to read like an advert, but the truth is that we were so overwhelmed by our welcome that I just want to help the owners continue to get tenants!

LOCATION

The apartment is right next to Náměstí Míru ("Peace Square"), so you can either hop on to Metro Line A, which will take you to the city centre in a couple of stops, or you can cross the square, walk down Anglická, turn right down Mezibranská, and find yourself at the top of historic Wenceslas Square. Alternatively, there are 4 different trams that take you from the square to the city centre.

The square itself is worth hanging around! The church is beautiful (see the photos), there's a piano that's permanently there which I played on the way home one night, and the square's frequently used for events, so we got a free concert one evening! Plus there are tons of shops right next to the apartment, including several 24-hour ones, and Blue Wagon - one of Prague's best restaurants - is in the next street.

To get to the flat from the airport, go to a ticket desk at the airport itself and ask for a transfer ticket (bus + metro) to Náměstí Míru (they'll speak English). Then get the 119 bus from the airport to Dejvická, which takes around 30 mins, and then Metro Line A to Náměstí Míru, which takes around 15. Stamp your ticket on the bus but not on the metro, using the machines. Once at the metro station, take the exit to your left marked "Korunni" - the building is then the second one in the street (No. 588/4), and the apartment is marked "JustPrague". However, Jiri will probably give you his number so that you can call him for the keys.

THE APARTMENT

You get a very good idea of the apartment from the photos - the only difference is that it's actually bigger in real life than it appears (they should have used a wider-angle lens for the photos)! The kitchen is part of the entrance hall, so is very spacious - not a cramped, "box" kitchen, like you get in so many inner-city flats - which means that you can easily have two people cooking at the same time without getting in each other's way. And, as you can see in the photos, the owners left a Prague guidebook, Czech literature (in English), Jamie Oliver salt and pepper shakers with cooking oil, plus tea, coffee and sugar. They even left us orange juice for breakfast as we were arriving at night!

You can't see it in the photos, but there's enough cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils to entertain a party of 6 - pots, a frying pan, cutting knives, a spatula, glasses, mugs, etc. Plus there's a seemingly endless supply of very hot water, although all the taps allow you to mix hot and cold to your own taste. The shower room contains copious amounts of towels, plus we were given little bottles of L'Occitane shower gel and shampoo. There's a flatscreen TV in the living room, which we were never used, but I think it had a lot of cable channels.

The apartment has two large windows which let in a lot of light, with a view across the street, which thankfully is very wide, so the whole place has a great feeling of "space". There were days when we had to force ourselves to get out of the flat, and we often cooked dinner at "home"!

THE OWNERS

I really can't speak highly enough of the owners. Jiri answered all of my questions before arriving, and I felt like I could have called him anytime with a problem when I was there, although I never needed to. When we arrived he and Vanessa showed around the apartment (they both speak very good English), and Jiri left us a piece of paper with his phone number and useful information, including the password for the WiFi, which is very fast and reliable. Vanessa's mother even baked us a traditional Czech cake which we ate over the course of our 5 days there (she's a very good cook), although I guess you can't expect that to happen every time! The owners even invited us to the cinema one evening - they couldn't have been friendlier.

CONCLUSION

All in all, a ludicrously nice apartment for the money - I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. For the price of a backpackers you get a luxury flat in a great location with lovely owners. I actually didn't tell my travel companion where were staying before getting there, but told her how much it cost and said that it was budget accommodation! When we arrived she was blown away. Book it before it gets booked out.
