Because of time constraints we decided to forgo a visit to the paid section of the castle, visited the courtyard instead, which offers a reasonably nice photo opp, but nothing more than that. Nice visit, but next time I will definitely pay to visit at least the chapel.

Lublin Castle is a complex hosting a beautiful museum and art gallery, with (as of April 2018) an excellent exhibit on the history of Europe and the "Barbarian tsunami". It covers a great deal about the region's history, and that of the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth, the creation of which happened at Lublin. The Trinity Chapel is a phenomenal site of restored Byzantine art. The Tower contains exhibits on the most grim part of the castle's history - a prison throughout various eras of history. Unfortunately the exhibits for it are only in Polish at this time, but it's still worth going to the top of the tower for a stunning view of the old city.

The exterior of the castle is beautiful, sadly the interior wasn't as fascinating. It cost extra to go into the museum, an artist's exhibition, the church and the tower. Sadly very little in the way of English translation in the tower which I believe housed prisoners but as it was in Polish with no translation I cannot be certain. The church was definitely a must. We couldn't go into the undercroft as it is closed during winter months. A laminated sheet provided translations in various languages to describe the paintings and the renovation/preservation work which has taken place.

The castle steeped in history being a former prison to what it is today, a museum of art and Polish history with a chapel and a prison tower. The only let down was having to show your tickets to every member of staff.
