“A comfortable hotel, well placed”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

Situated just outside the Stare Miasto (Old Town and Market Square), Rzymski is well-placed for access to some of the main sites in Poznan. Though it is an older style of hotel, it has very comfortable rooms which lack only in the provision of coffee/tea making facilities. The hotel offers free wi-fi access. The breakfast is unbelievably good - buffet-style with cold and hot dishes and a good assortment of pastries and artisan bread.

The staff were always pleasant and amenable, even at 03.30 when we had to depart for the airport. They had a taxi ready and waiting. They had also provided a packed breakfast snack (given that we were going to miss breakfast in the restaurant).

It is worth requesting a quite room (as we did) to avoid the sound and, probably, vibration from the trams which pass the front door.

There is easy access to transport - bus, tram and taxi and the railway station was a 15 minute walk away. In the early hours of the morning, the airport was no more than 15 minutes by taxi.

Very happy to recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road (tram route)

beatiful building, nice, clean rooms, a bit to small for me. the breakfast is good. the price for a night reasonable

Room Tip: rooms giving on the street are noisy because of trams and cars, but it is a center of the city :)

The location is great as it is near city centre and above a tram station with several lines. The staff is polite and speaks fluent English. The breakfast is good and with a decent variety. The soviet influence is still visible in the room I stayed, but every thing was intact and very well maintained. The room was perfectly clean. The internet service in the room is not the fastest one and is based on cables rather than Wi-Fi. I really would prefer to work with the computer on the bed, but the desk was very comfortable. The hotel offers ironing services but it also allows you to use the service room for one to iron his cloths. The damaged iron was replaced immediately. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean and pleasing.
In case I return to Poznan again, I will definitely return.

Our stay at the Rzymski was very quick, due to a tight schedule that meant we were only in Poznan city center for 19 hours, but what we experienced was reasonable and adiquate for our needs, with a few moans thrown in for good measure.
Arriving with a large group I was glad of the translator that came with us as the front desk hosted an army of people who couldn't speak a word of English. Still, check in was swift considering there was 33 of us across 17 rooms.
The rooms here were small but all had a twin seat sofa and a dressing table plus tv crammed in and were clean and warm. The tv boasted a few English speaking channels including SKY news.
*TIP* The majority of the rooms were down three steps on each floor which had not lift access. If travelling with prams or wheelchairs, make sure to ask for a room next to the lift!
I had three issues with this hotel and one major positive:
Firstly the issues; breakfast was poor. The "cooked" items were inedible. The sausages were a mixture of raw and over cooked, the scrambled egg was runny (and I cant really say on here what it reminded me of) and the tea was not hot water with a teabag of your choice, but instead already made and kept warm in the large steel heated dispensers that coffee is usually in. This meant that the first customer down drank too weak and the last too strong! Plus, I can't imagine the state of the inside!
Secondly the bar area: A last thought "L" shaped bar with a waiter who dissappears outback after every drink is made to add it to the till then again to take the money, and plastic garden furniture pressed against the outwall. No windows, nothing to look at, poor.
*TIP* Show your room keys for 10% discount at the bar. It was again, only our translator, who was able to bring this to our attention.
Thirdly, the noise: The rooms were double glazed but the hotel is situated alongside a major area of the city. Sirens and traffic alike will greet you through the night and morning. I was asked at breakfast by a friend "What number tram did you wake up to this morning?".
*TIP* There are a few rooms on the inside of the hotel, however not many, so again you may wish to make a special request when booking if your a light sleeper
The positive is the position. As I said, my stay is Poznan was brief but situtated only 300 yards from the old market square (Poland eat and drink central), it was impossible to get lost or not find the cities main (but in short supply) attractions.
Would I stay here again? Yes i would, but it would be with breakfast elsewhere and a set of earplugs.

Room Tip: Inner side away from traffic!

I'll start by saying my partner and I went in March, and as you can imagine the weather was not nice. Cold and wet, but that is not a fault of the hotel. In consequence we did not go out into the town too much, although the hotel is nicely located for the old town square and old market.
In short, I found the hotel to be very clean, well decorated, possibly recently refurbished. 2 lifts both in good working order. Reception staff were polite and friendly (one hopes to find that at every hotel, but there is always an exception). There is a restaurant and a bistro. Breakfast is in the restaurant and were excellent, plenty of choice. The bar is between reception and the restaurant, and to the delight of my partner a smoking area, which even though I am a non-smoker think it is a plus for any hotel.
On the negative side, service, both in the bar and restaurant was sometimes slow. This may have been because the hotel was not very busy (the time of year perhaps?). Meals were slightly overpriced for the ammount on your plate. I can't really comment on the bistro since I only used it once and that was so that I could have a relaxing beer with a view out onto the street, and the tram stop which is directly outside the hotel. Luckily our room was not on that side of the hotel as I think it could have been quite noisy.
On the whole I think I would go back to the Rzymski, but would like to do so in the warmer months, when it would perhaps be a little busier, (therefore more staff, so not so slow service, if that makes sense).
On a side note, if you are driving, the hotel does not have its own parking garage/area, you need to use the public one. If you are staying for a few days you get a special parking rate at the car park (as opposed to the hourly rate) but you must go to the office in the car park to arrange it, once you have parked up.

Hotel was very good. Nice rooms, service and food. Very close to the centre. There was no noise, at least I didn't hear anything :)) for the price I paid I couldn't ask for more. It's a great value for money and brilliant place to stay in. Will definitely come back and recommend that hotel.
