“Great Location and Staff.”
Reviewed 9 June 2009

REVIEWER PERSPECTIVE:
* Mid-40’s single male traveler from the U.S.A. doing a 4 month world trip. During stay at this Hostel my 21 year old son was accompanying me.
*Focus has been on staying in budget accommodations. A good budget hotel/hostel for my standards is: secure, clean, comfortable, quiet at night, with reasonable access to the location I am visiting. I don’t mind staying in (or walking through) a working class neighborhood so long as there isn’t a perceived safety issue.

OVERVIEW: RECOMMENDED. This hostel is perfectly located in Budapest. It is two minutes walking from St. Stephen’s Basilica. The 2 owners (brother and sister) are there often and are super nice, and the rest of the staff is very helpful as well. It is perfect for the younger crowd who want to socialize… even though use of the common area after 12 is discouraged, it is not uncommon for it to be used later. If a quite night’s sleep is important, talk to staff to get the right room as noise from the common room can be an issue.

LOCATION and TRANSPORTATION: This is in the middle of Budapest, the location is perfect.
*Depending on what you want to see you might still need mass transportation because some of Budapest’s sights are spread out, but you can walk to many places. If you enjoy walking, both Parliament (10 to 12 minute walk) and the Castle area on the opposite side of the river (15 to 20 minute walk) can be reached easily.
*Restaurants and Bars: Many in the area within easy walking distance. There is an awesome restaurant behind the Basilica (the Basilica fronts on a plaza so “behind” the Basilica is a main road) named Luga’s. You can walk to it in 5 minutes. A very good dinner of Hungarian food for 2, with a couple beers, desert and tip can be had for $30 to $35 (US Dollars).
*There is an interesting city park about 5 minutes away. It has green space, a skate boarding area, and a “basement” where live music is performed. The park is “alive” day and night and hosts all types of people. Great people watching place.

INTERNET: One computer is available for use and there is free Wi-Fi as well.

SECURITY: We stayed in an individual room so we did not confirm if lockers are available in the dorms. The hostel seemed safe and secure.

STAFF: Staff is helpful and nice. They will do all they can to give you recommendations, print maps, etc. One of the Owners volunteered to take us to our bus stop on departure. The will do your laundry and return it in 24 hours for 8 Euros. Simply put this is a friendly, helpful group of people.

“FUN FACTOR”: You feel like you are staying at a friend's house.People gather in the common room and kitchen area and have a good time. There is a guitar, travel books, games, TV with DVD, and a Stereo in the common area. As referenced in the overview, socializing can occur until well after midnight. This can be an issue on some nights if you want to sleep. As an older traveler I noticed this about 3 of the 7 nights we stayed and it bothered me some, but my 21 year old son had no issues with it. If sleep is important talk to management to see if they can put you where the noise isn’t an issue.

SUMMARY: The location is perfect, staff is great and the hostel is fun, especially for the younger crowd. If noise is a concern , don’t discount this hostel before talking to staff about finding a quiet room.

First of all let me tell you that my best friend I traveled with, met her now fiance here at this very hostel. This hostel is in an excellent central location on the Pest side (which I think is the better side to stay in if you prefer the city atmosphere), walking distance to everything, there was even a small convenient store just next door as well. and the free welcome shot is a nice touch. We booked a private 2-4 people room, it was huge and ended up no one else stayed in the room so it was just the 2 of us. Yes, you have to go out to use a shared bathroom but that's how it is with hostels and it just reminds me of staying in a college dorm, its a fun sharing feel. The price was great for what you get, their living room was huge as well, nice with a kitchen, couches, tables and free internet on a computer (we were staying on like 2nd or 3rd floor, I believe each floor has the same amenities). I would stay here again if I ever return to Budapest.

Very nice staff, who are always helping you; free coffee, comfortable living-room and a really good location - although it is quite small, it is just one of the best hostels I have been to.

We stayed at this Hostel for 4 nights in early September, it was our first time in the city and I have to stay as a seasoned hostel stayer this is up there with the best.
Ignore the rather unappealing front entrance and reserve judgement until you get inside, you will be releaved.
It is not the cheapest hostel in Budapest but I cant imagine any are better, the location is second to none, directly in front of the Bassilica and within walking distance of most places in Pest and the bridge connecting to Buda.
The place is clean, smells nice when you enter and feels like a home from home with the welcoming staff and fun, friendly atmosphere. The full kitchen, common room and computer with free internet access made this, in my humble oppinion a better option for travellers than a hotel, i can not reconmend this hostel highly enough and hope to return soon.

  • Liked — Great location and service
