We had a room reservation for mathias hostel during the time there was sziget festival going on last august 2014. When we finally arrive, in the middle of the night, the door was locked and there was a sign "sorry we are closed" in the main door. Umm, what? We ring the doorbell and get in and walk to the reception where they just said we have no reservation anymore. They had some "technical problem" in their system, all the reservations were gone, and the whole hostel was already full. They said there's nothing we can do, sorry, and point us back in to the dark night with no idea where to sleep the week we stay in Budapest. The young guy behind the reception desk didn't even apologise lot. Unbelievable. We even got the "reminder e-mail" about our reservation only 5 days before. I really can't recommend this hostel to anyone. You cannot trust them. :(

The hostel is not very clean and the rooms are very simple. The bathroom is very small and uncomfortable. The wifi was not available at all times and we had to come to the lobby to use the same as the signal is not good.

The only good thing about this place is that the staff is very friendly

I took the airport minibus as it would be hard to find and is on a windy hill so not a good place to be walking with luggage. Staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. They would look up train times and prices for me and explain bus numbers and how to get around town. They also sell snacks and drinks at reception. I booked a two person room thinking it would be bigger than a one person room but they were the same. They are putting new furniture in a lot of rooms. The mattress and pillow had hairs but you have covers to put over the blanket and pillow. Also the floors have never been cleaned so you need footwear. Nearby is a big Mom Park shopping centre with a Spar supermarket, movie theatre, and restaurants and a few mins from that is Deli Pu Metro station (about a 15 min walk from hostel). Wifi was mostly good, room was quiet, I stayed for five nights. It was ok because I wasn't sightseeing but if you are a tourist its probably not the best spot

The hostel is very cheap, so you can not expect too much. In addition to the holiday season serves as a dormitory. The advantage is its location close to the center next to Gellert Hill, the Pest side you can quickly get the bus number 8 There is free wifi Internet access, but in our room was poor coverage and work slowly. Who does not have a computer can use the computers, which are at the reception. There is also a dining room, but we did not use it and a kitchen with cooking plates, microwave and refrigerator. In conclusion I would recommend for the price, but someone needs more luxury is not here.

You know, I didn't have high expectations for a 20 E / night hostel in downtown Budapest, but this was just a nightmare. The sheets were more yellow than white, hair on the pillows, prison size rooms, you really can not fall asleep until the last one of your neighbors fells asleep > you can hear everything from the toilets flushing, footsteps on the hallway, doors opening and closing... Our "luck" was that we stayed in Budapest for one night only

Room Tip: Don't stay here
