First of all, the location is EXCELLENT. It is quite close to the Chain Bridge on the Pest side.
For all of those who get confused with the address, apparently Tere= square, so we had a hard time looking for the hotel. The facade doesn't look like it will be a hotel at all. But when you walk in the whole thing changes, the interior of the building keeps that Hapsburg Dynasty design and feeling.
The staff is very kind and helpful, they invited us over for a free drink with other people on one of the nights we were there.
The rooms are spacey and fun, my friend and I had this little platform just for the 2 of us. They had a kitchen with the best blueberry tea I've ever had and other things you could need.
This hotel was MUCH better than we had expected it to be.

At the time I was in this hostel, they had a special offer for Wednesday and it costed only 5 Euro. Of course it was a 10 bed dorm which was a regular room with its own bathroom. But the hostel itself is just great. The staff is amazing, very friendly and helpful. There are plenty of common rooms, two kitchens, bathrooms and it is all very clean and well designed. I LOVED IT! I'll go there again for sure!

The hostel was so much better than I expected, myself and a group of friends go away for a weekend city break every year, this time it was Budapest. The 10 bed dormitory was spacious, clean with it's own bathroom. Two of my other friends stayed in their own bedroom which looked more like a hotel room than a hostel. The staff were very friendly and so helpful. Would recommend this hostel to anyone of my friends.

Stayed at the hostel for 3 nights in October 2011.

We arrived Budapest Keleti train station close to 10pm at night and took bus no.7 (express) to Ferenciek Tere where the hostel is located. The bus stop at Ferenciek Tere is 3 bus stops away if we take the express bus. If we take the normal bus no. 7, it will be 5 bus stops away. Basically, the distance for normal and express buses is the same.

Even if we did not stay that near to the train station, it was rather convenient to reach Maverick hostel by bus. However, the signage of the hostel is not that eye-catching. When we arrived at the other side of the road, we took a while to guess the exact location and had it not for the video on Maverick website we repeatedly watched, we might have a harder time to find the location.

When we entered the building, that was not maverick hostel yet. We had to turn right and walk up a short flight of stairs before opening the door to the reception. Checking in wasn't that fast because there was a couple in front of us. The receptionist looked a bit confused during the check in but he wasn't that confused after all when we asked him lots of questions for the next 2 days.

The receptionist showed us to our room which is located on the top floor of the building. We first saw a pantry which looked nice but were a bit disappointed when we saw our room. The room is modest with wooden cabinet and wooden floor. It looks rather old with cracks on the floor. I spotted a bug which hid in the crack on the floor. I had initally thought the clean bathroom make up for it but I spotted 2 more identical bugs on the floor of the bathroom. As I dislike insects, I was pretty disturbed by the sight on the first night.

Luckily, the bed was not that bad after all. The location further made up for it. I must say the location is good for the price we paid. It is close to Vaci Street, central market, chain bridge, jewish district etc. If you choose to walk, the parliament house shouldn't be that challenging to reach. The metro station is just right outside and if you have a day pass or so, it's very easy to get to anywhere like Heroes Sq, Andrassy Avenue, State Opera etc.

Food isn't a worry as well. Just right outside the building, there's a bakery, sandwich store and supermarket which opens for 24hrs. There are famous restaurants with gypsy music nearby but the receptionist said it's quite pricey. So in the end, we gave it a miss.

We were hoping for more restaurant recommendations but were only recommended a Bali place which we thought isn't that authentic. Anyway, all I can say is, it is better to do our own research.

If you are expecting some big fun to go on in the hostel, then this might not be the best place to look for. However if you are expecting a not-too-bad place to stay and can have some peace at night, Maverick is the choice. I think the place is also quite safe with the surveillance cameras in place. There's also like a security guard right at the entrance of the building. It's indeed an experience staying in Maverick, for us at least.

Internet access is excellent. Full reception! This is something I quite like.

To sum our experience up, I would say this is a location value for the price. Do not expect very fanciful set up and you will not be disappointed.

Maverick Hostel is situated in central Budapest, so it is perfect for walking to the main sightseeing places. The hostel is clean, beautiful and the staff is very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay here very much and would recommend it to everyone who wants to have hotel style in an hostel atmosphere.

Amazing hostel in central Budapest! Right off Ferenciek Tere which is one of the central transport hubs in the city this hostel was perfect! 5 minute walk to the river, central market hall or Deak Ter which is where the hop on/hop off tour buses operate from(which is a steal in itself!). We had a private room which was on the top floor, with only 5-6 other rooms up there. There was a small kitchen which was great for making your own brekkie and a 24 hour store just on the corner to buy all your food at. The staff was super helpful, let us store our bags when we arrived early from an overnight train and did all our laundry before we checked back in a few hours later. They even refunded us 1/2 a nights stay when the hot water went out one day and made sure we had access to one of the other dorm floors bathrooms. Budapest is great overall and this was an amazing place to call home for 3 nights!

Really pleased with this hostel. The building isn't modern by any means but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. It's definitely not the place to stay for large groups, but more for travellers. I would definitely stay here again.
