This was the third hotel we stayed at while in Budapest. This is a full service hotel.
It is literally next to the Opera House and the (red) HopOnHopOff bus has a stop (#4) there too. There are great al fresco restaurants within a 2-3 block walk from the Hotel and in the other direction is St. Stephens Bascilla (3 blocks). Also the main street in front of the opera house has nice shopping.
Before booking I read the comments on TripAdvisor and the review that said that all major tourist sites of the city are within 20-25 minutes walk is right on. It took us ~15-20 minutes (tops) to walk to Parliament, and then it takes another 10-15minutes to cross the Chain Bridge into Buda to get to Castle Hill. We mostly used the HopOnHopOff (you get 3 routes for 27Euro and 2 days...one route is a water route with one stop in Pest, one in Buda and one on Margaret Island, the other routes take you around Pest and the red line heads to Castle Hill and the yellow goes to the Citadel before heading to Castle Hill).
The staff at the hotel was awesome. The desk staff was well-prepared to answer any question we threw at them, and were extremely nice at check in. We ate at the "bar" and thought it would be like American bar food (fried), but is wasn't! The food was awesome, probably why the bar/bistro was packed on a Thursday night at 8pm. The bar staff was very friendly, spoke english very well and we were just impressed with our dining experience. And the cost was reasonable, about $25 per person with one drink, entree and dessert.
The exchange rate at the hotel was inline with getting it from the bank or with a bank card.
They also helped out with getting taxis, using their approved taxi companies. The were very accurate in guessing the fare and their taxis provider took charge cards. We had heard of "tiger taxis" and experienced them after one of our late night book rides...the fare to the pier going was 1800HUF and the tiger taxi charged us 5000HUF on the way back.
One can also book many tours/excursions from the hotel's front desk. They sell the HopOnHopOff tickets as well as boat rides/boat cruises ~ they probably do more this is all we asked about. We had already book our tickets from another hotel when we first arrived in Budapest so we did not need to use this service.
The hotel is not new, but the lobby and first floor has a new feel. The floors where the rooms are shows more of the age of the hotel. The room was typically European in style, a bit smaller than some of the other hotels we stayed at, but the bathroom was a good size and neither the room nor the bathroom had a moldy smell (I can't say that for a new hotel we stayed at in Budapest). The internet was easy to connect to and the signal was good. They have outlets in the bathroom (part of the hairdryer that accepted our US plugs -the ones with equal sized prongs, which worked nice for an older curling iron but not compatible with my flat iron). They had 2 (European) outlets at the desk station which had a mirror there too, so that worked out OK for the flat iron. The room was clean and we had separate duvets on our double bed. They well supplied the bathroom with shampoo to vanity set. No hair conditioner. They also had a safe and nice size closet with about a dozen hangers.
We also book a room with the breakfast included. I would agree with another reviewer, at certain times their breakfast room was full (hard to find a 4 person table) but they worked through that pretty quickly. It would have been nicer if the waitstaff, after checking us in, would have had us wait 2 minutes while they cleared a table for us instead of the 4 of us wandering around the room finding a spot. The food selection was good with processed meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit (cut and whole), bread and a few pastries, yogurt with lots of different toppings, coffee, tea and several juices.
Overall a nice hotel with a great location.
