“Couldn't be better!”
Reviewed December 24, 2017 for a stay in December 2017

Sarah's Rooms are set in an vintage apartment block that is full of character. The rooms are spotlessly clean and spacious.
The apartment is easy to reach from the airport using the 100E bus, though this may get a bit crowded at times. All the main attractions in Budapest are within walking distance but, if you need it, the Astoria Metro Station is just a few minutes' walk away. If you're an EU pensioner you'll find nearly all of the public transport is free, so don't get duped into buying a Budapest Card, thinking it will save you money. Just make sure you carry photo id showing your date of birth.
In comparison with other European cities, apartments in Budapest are not expensive, but Sarah's Rooms seem like a particularly good bargain.
I believe the owner has several properties to let - if Sarah's Rooms are booked for your dates she may well be able to find you an alternative.

“Fabulous apartment, great location.”
Reviewed May 26, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

The apartment is in a beautiful classical building in Semmelweis St near the Synagogue. A short walking distance to all the attractions, bridges, restaurants and shopping streets, the location is quiet, safe and very central. Loved the decor, incredibly high ceilings and doors and the sheer size of the rooms. The original lift is fantastic and very reliable. The owners are great, nothing is too much trouble. It was hot in in Budapest in May and although the apartment has several large fans, it constantly stayed at 24 degrees and I suspect it may be uncomfortably warm during the summer. However, it was so great I just had to give it 5 stars!

“Very enjoyable stay”
Reviewed August 30, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Excellent apartment, a few minutes walk from all the central parts of Budapest. Supermarkets, coffee bars and restaurants as well as the Metro are close by. The owners were very helpful with any questions we had. It is easily accessible as there is a classically styled lift.
I stayed in the apartment with my two teenage daughters and thoroughly enjoyed our week.

“Superb week in a city which has so much to offer.”

Sarah's Rooms lived up to our expectations: the apartment - the word does it better justice than "rooms" - was every bit as comfortable as described in previous reviews.
It is very spacious and airy, with its high ceilings and bright colour scheme, and has been expertly and tastefully renovated. We just loved the wallpaper!
You could not wish for a better location, within walking distance of most attractions (and the Danube) and public transport hubs, and a very convenient Aldi store just round the corner selling delicious bread and pastries (7 days a week 7 am-10pm!). There's also a quaint art cinema also round the corner, the Puskin, which shows lots of foreign films.
Budapest is a marvellous city of culture, particularly if you are a music lover. We would strongly recommend a visit to the opera (the grand National State Opera), we went twice! (best to buy your tickets on-line before you go, the Hungarians love their operas and they do sell out). There's also the new Palace of the Arts, part of the Millenium Center complex, which hosts superb classical music concerts at very reasonable prices. It is easily reached by tramway (line 2).
The Gerloczy restaurant, again 5 mn's walk going the other way serves excellent food at very reasonable prices. Their lunch-time menu (Mondays & Tuesdays only) is fantastic value.
I could not end this review without a word about Hajnal: she is a lovely, attentive hostess who responds promptly (e-mails) to any queries you may have, can book your taxis and generally makes sure you have everything you need. It was a pleasure to do business with her.
We had a brilliant week and cannot wait to go again!

This apartment is great. It's beautifully but simply furnished in a great location.

I stayed here with my Girlfriend for 3 nights.

The apartment is a great basis to explore Budapest from - it's location is perfectly out of the way, but only a stone throw from the hustle and bustle. You've got the pedestrian street and Christmas Market (if the right time of year) 10 mins on way and you've got one of the popular ruin bar's 5 mins the other way. It's also on a street that's easy to pronounce, which makes booking a taxi all that easier.

The owner, Hajnal, is great too - always quickly responds to my emails, doesn't hide additional costs into the overall stay (many other add a cleaning fee) and even responded to an email post stay asking where the wallpaper comes from!

Overall a great place to stay - would happily return.

“Beautiful Apartment”
Reviewed May 10, 2013 for a stay in October 2012

I stayed in this apartment with my girlfriend in October 2012 (sorry for the late review) for 10 nights.

It is located on a quiet, leafy residential street (Semmelweis Street) that is nestled between the much larger Kossuth Lajos Utca and Karoly Korut in the very center of town. So, while situated at the heart of Budapest, close to all amenities (shopping, restaurants, Metro etc), it is a great little retreat in the afternoon, and at the end of the day.

At one end of the street (Kossuth Lajos) there are a number of nice local bars and eateries, along with a metro station - all within a 2 or 3 minute stroll. At the other end, along Semmelweis St, you will find another pleasant little bar and beyond that a couple of well-stocked supermarkets, catering for all your apartmental needs.

When we arrived at the apartment itself (about 15 euro in a taxi from the airport I seem to recall), we were greated by our host Hajnal, who was very pleasant. There is an old-style elevator leading to the apartment on the 4th (I think?) floor which added to the charm of the olde worlde building. The building is designed in a doughnut shape around a central courtyard. People with a fear of heights might have an issue with that, but stay close to the wall and there are no problems.

With large rooms and exceptionally high ceilings, the accomodation was nicely decorated while not betraying the period feel of the apartment. The kitchen is very modern, and contained all appliances and wear you would wish for in an apartment. The fridge is supplied with wine and a few other items. While this is a nice touch, you would certainly find them cheaper in the supermarkets.

The toilet room is seperate from the shower room - always a good thing, and a large double door can be opened between the bedroom and sitting room (also seperate from the kitchen) if you want to keep an eye on the TV. Vitally, free Wifi was also provided.

Overall, we were delighted with this accomodation. It was the first time we had ever chosen an apartment over a hotel, and because of it, booked an apartment for our following trip (to Wroclaw, Poland) also. It was a great base from which to explore the marvellous city of Budapest, and some of the other towns around the north of Hungary. Central, quiet, practical and secure it was the perfect place to make our home for 10 days in Budapest. Recommended 5 out of 5 for sure.

Liked best: General "feel" of the apartment was like a home away from home, and it was very well located.
Liked least: I am glad to say there was nothing we didn't like.
