Owner description: Budapest has the largest Jewish community in Central Europe, with an active religious, artistic and historical Jewish heritage. Through centuries the Hungarian and Jewish history has been intertwined. Hungarian Jews played and are also playing today an important role in the country's economical, cultural and political life. Since 1995 we show to Budapest visitors the Hungarian and Jewish culture in our country. Our well trained guides have the necessary qualifications to help you understand the Jewish past and present in Budapest and in Hungary. Tours are organized in two languages (English and German). We try to keep the sightseeing tours with small groups of guests.

“Average tour - Not that much about Jewish history”
Reviewed 3 November 2016

Our guide was Petra. Although she was very well informed about the Jewish traditions and places in Budapest, during the tour she didn't cover the historical aspects. Our expectation, according to the tour description, was to review the history of the Jewish community in Budapest. However, the tour was more focused on Jewish traditions.

“Worth Your Time”
Reviewed 28 October 2016

We were in Budapest for just a few days and I wanted to make sure we spent some time in the Jewish Quarter - very glad we found this tour company. Our guide was very sweet and knowledgeable. It was a relaxing walking tour that highlighted all of the spots that are listed on their website tour description. There were about 13 people in our group which was very manageable. We did the short tour (2.5-3 hours) and it gave us just enough of a feel for the area to decide on our own which areas we wanted to give more time later in the day. I was very pleased with our decision to book this company.

“Fascinating insights...”
Reviewed 25 October 2016

We are not Jewish. Most of our fellow tour participants were..from Canada, USA and Australia. We signed up because we thought it might give us a different perspective from the regular walking tours of Budapest. We were right! This specialized focus brought this section of Budapest to life. We saw the specialized architecture, unique (kosher!) coffee shops, graffiti art, and the lack of a ghetto found in other European cities. Our guide told us of her own familiy's Jewish history, was full of anecdotes and humour. The tour includes admission to the magnificent Synagogue, paid for by the Emporer and designed by a Christian architect...no wonder it resembles a Cathedral! Also included was a personalized tour of the Jewish Heritage Centre where a very intense local curator took us through the exhibits in detail. The highlight for me was the memorial honouring Holocaust victims , a wonderful willow tree made of metal with names inscribed on every leaf. Heroes who helped to rescue Jews at great personal danger were also honoured (Wallenberg, Sir Nicholas Winton, local Catholic clergy etc).
An unusual, educational, fun and satisfying tour!
