“Pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2010

The previous reviews of the hotel correctly describe its amenities. We were in the building which also houses the wellness centre, and the room was clean, comfortable and adequate size. Unlike a previous reviewer, the air conditioning worked fine.

The reception staff were helpful, and spoke English quite well.

The wellness centre is very nice - we spent our days walking and enjoyed returning to the hotel around 4pm and spending a couple of hours enjoying the sauna, steam room, ice room(!), aroma room, jacuzzi and pool. It also had a pretty good fitness centre downstairs, but we didn't use this.

The main drawback we found was the food. The evening buffet was below average, and we found breakfast not to be worth eating. Another couple in our group ate a la carte on their second night and said the food was much better, but we walked to 'The Valley of Beautiful Women' about 5 minutes away, and had a much nicer meal. That restaurant was the first one on the right as you arrive in the valley - I'm afraid I don't remember its name.

I have spent 4 days in Hotel Villa Volgy in May. My room was superior 4-star category with common building with the spa area. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The Hotel has a new open-air wellness area with 2 swimmingpools, poolbar, childrenpool in amazing environment. The weather was fine, the pools were fantastic! I have already been guest in Hotel Eger & Park, and in Hotel Flora, but my opinion is that Hotel Villa Volgy is the best in Eger!

Based on two favorable reviews on TripAdvisor, we sought out the Hotel Volgy upon arrival in Eger. It is located in a very pleasing setting on the edge of town, surrounded by manicured gardens and a vineyard. Asking a local for directions, he kindly drove in his car ahead of us, as the property is not easy to find. The three-building hotel property also includes a chapel and secure, on-site parking.

Reception staff was pleasant, English speaking, and eager to help with information. We were assigned a room on the third floor of the newer 4-star building. As it turned out it was, except for two skylights, windowless under the roof with sloping walls on one side. It was generous in size with comfortable beds, mini bar, flat screen TV with Hungarian and German channels, couch and two overstuffed chairs whose bolster seams started to open up, laminate wood flooring, a safe with instructions only in Hungarian but a New Testament in both English and German, a writing desk without desk lamp, and no waste basket except in the bathroom. All was rather modern as was the small bathroom with a stall shower and hair dryer, although it had only a tiny glass shelf above the sink for one's stuff, no facial tissue, the commode rocked, and the light above the sink did not work. Staff efforts to change light bulbs did not help.

The room had A/C which did not do anything but blow warm air around, and a staffer held up his hand feeling there was air movement and pronounced it in working order. It was a hot day, and rain started in the evening, forcing us to close the skylights. It was still 78 degrees in the room at 7 a.m. when we were awakened by bird song in the morning.

The new garden restaurant with a very pleasing ambiance served great food at reasonable prices, and the breakfast buffet was extensive. The four star building lacked an elevator, and lugging luggage three floors up and down does not warrant a four star rating. We stayed only one night, and the final insult was a non-functioning credit card reader at check-out.

In all fairness, this hotel has potential, but has a way to go to meet international standards, and the beautiful setting and good food do not make up for shortcomings present.

  • Liked — Idyllic setting, excellent food served in restaurant
  • Disliked — malfunctioning air conditioner, no elevator

We spent one night at this hotel in May. I had booked a room in the four star section of the hotel.

The hotel looks wonderful from the outside and is actually composed of three separate buildings. Our room was located in the same building as the wellness area. Our room wasn't big but was adequate and very modern. We were quite happy with it but perhaps would have liked a bit more character rather than just modern. The gardens around the hotel were lovely and I would request when booking, a room overlooking the garden if possible. Ours overlooked the caravan park next door but as we were only staying for one night it didn't really matter

It was very hot and humid the night we stayed there and the air-conditioning didn't appear to be working but hopefully this has been rectified. The hotel may well have given us a change of room if we had complained, but by the time we worked it out, we couldn't be bothered to move and therefore didn't even mention it to the staff until we checked out..

The wellness area is very good and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in it. The lounges for sunning yourself in the garden were very pleasant indeed.

The breakfast in the morning was quite good. The hotel is a 5-10 minute drive from the main square and consequently in a nice quiet area in the valley.

I spent 1 week in Eger in June. I booked the Hotel Villa Volgy via internet. The hotel is located in a beautiful park in the Valley of the Beautiful Woman, which is famous for its wine cellars. Everything was super during this 1 week; the staff was very kind and helpful, our room was clean and spacious. The hotel consists of 3 building, the new one is 4 star. The hotel has a brand new wellness part, infra sauna, sauna, jakuzzi, swimming pool, aroma cabin, ice cabin, massage facilities. The resturants are very elegant, the meals were special and fine. So we had a great holiday in baroque Eger.
