We visited the hotel for a weekend trip with family. The house has good amenities and a quite good SPA area. Room and breakfast/dinner was also good, but the whole experience gets overshadowed by continuous flaws in service. Feels like the 80's of Hungary is still looming around...
To finish on a positive note, I booked a spa appointment and the Swedish massage was superb. Agnes (Agi) was exceptionally good and well qualified.

Rocked up to use the sauna and pools for a three hour evening trip. Great experience. Interesting to have a quiet room for chilling after the scorching saunas. Mineral water from a fountain to drink too. Quite warm. The sauna park offered many options and the pools were good too. Was good to be able to swim outside too.
There was a bar too if you needed to drink 🍻

The hotel is the classic one, not modern but nice, clean with good food and services.
The staff is kind and helpful, most of them speak standard English.
The surrounding is very beautiful (Danube and hills). It is close to the towns Sentendre and Esztergom, both of them small and old. In Sentendre there is a very nice marzipan museum and in Esztergom there is a beautiful basilica.
The spa is nice with outdoor and indoor pools, good sauna park and playground for children.
The only one inconvenient is that the spa is too small and too crowded especially on weekend.

I spent one night at the Thermal Hotel Visegrad with my girlfriend to celebrate her 30th birthday.

I booked the Junior Suite as I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with a great room and beautiful view over the Danube. The hotel is well situated less than an hour away from Budapest and very close to Esztergom (worth visiting). The hotel and wellness are nice but our stay wasn't such a great experience due to the below.

- I have booked the room on the hotel's website in advance and I opted to receive a bottle of chilled sparkling wine upon arrival. To make sure everything was in order, I called up to the hotel 1 hour before arrival and asked them to make sure the bubbly is ready. They reassured me it will be. However, once we arrived there was no sparkling wine in the room at all! I called reception where a lady told me in a LECTURING voice that they never leave the sparkling wine in the rooms as it wouldn't stay cool. Not what I've seen in my her hotels! When I told her that I even called in an hour earlier she wasn't apologetic at all, but said that a member of staff will take up the sparkling wine right away. 45 minutes later still nothing so I called reception again and asked them to cancel it. Bad service!

- The Junior Suite itself was nice, if it wasn't the IKEA standard furniture.

- The view would have been nice, but they don't tell you that there is a busy road right opposite the hotel which somewhat kills the view. The noise insulation isn't great either - you can hear the cars with the windows / balcony door shut!

- Next we went down to the spa which was a good size and quite nice. However, it was so packed that we felt like sardines in a tin can. We later understood that the hotel opens up the spa to non-guests, so people from local towns who don't stay there can also use it. When it came to dinner time, there were only 4-5 guests in the hotel! I think it is a shame that they let so many non-guests into the spa as this completely destroys the spa experience for the guests who pay for the rooms!

- The worst part came at dinner. We have paid for a buffet dinner when I booked the room as it was very cheap (about +£3 per person), but the intention was always that we would order a la carte. When we arrived at the restaurant a middle aged gentleman (the host) welcomed us. I mentioned to him that we would like to have the menus as we may end up ordering a la carte. The host seemed incredibly confused by this. The conversation took place in Hungarian (I am a native speaker) but I will show this in English for everyone's amusement.

Host: You will find the buffet to your right.
Me: Could we also have the menus please as we may order a la carte in the end.
Host (expression of shock): But you have already paid for the buffet?
Me: Yes, I have, however we may order from the menu in the end.
Host (even more shocked): But... I cannot give you a discount for be price of the buffet dinner that you have ordered!
Me (slightly irritated): Yes I appreciate that and that's fine but we may still wish to order from the menu after all.
Host (after hesitation, louder): But... You will need to PAY for that!

After that I lost my patience and informed him that I have a salary and I can pay for the food I order! No response to that. Finally we were seated.

Dinner itself was good. In an attempt to make up for the missed sparkling wine, a waiter then showed up and told us that the hotel would like to send us a bottle of sparkling wine on the house. This was a nice effort (even if they send us the cheapest one on the menu and not what we were going to order at all) and they did look after us afterwards.

For positives I will mention that the young staff at reception and the young lady serving the pub/bar (near the snooker table) were all very nice and polite and so was the waiter who brought us the free bubbly at dinner. The food was also excellent (in the end we did a combination of buffet and a la carte and were all great).

Overall I think this could be a much better hotel but the staff needs to be retrained and a lot better organised. Management should consider severely limiting the number of outside guests to the spa because after paying c£150 for a room for one night you don't want to feel like you are on a public beach when you enter the spa! As things are, you are better of going to one of the other 4 star thermal hotels in Hungary as there are much better ones.
