Our family had a university graduation luncheon for my niece at Steakpark. My brother-in-law picked the restaurant, and made advanced reservations for a party of 10. My wife, son, and I arrived first, and walked up to the bar to order cocktails. I was astonished to see a bottle of Hendricks Gin sitting on the shelf, and decided I needed a Martini. I asked the bartender if she spoke English, and if she knew how to mix a Martini. I then ordered three, and specified that I only wanted a few drops of Vermouth in each drink. My wife repeated my request in Slovak. We sat down, and the drinks arrived shortly. My wife took one sip, put down her glass, and went to the bar. My son and I then tried our drinks...Vermouth WITHOUT a trace of gin. Well, I thought, why did I expect a 17 or 18-year-old girl to properly mix a drink? Strike One.
The rest of our party arrived, we were seated, and we waited. There was only one other table with a party of 4, and two waitresses, yet we waited, and waited. Menus finally arrived, we ordered a couple of bottles of wine, and explored the menu. My son and I ordered Avenue Cheeseburgers, cooked medium-rare, in two languages. Our other 8 family members ordered a wide variety of items. Then we waited, and we waited...My niece's boyfriend finally had enough of the incompetence, went into the kitchen to complain, as he was the one who had recommended Steakpark. And we waited...Strike Two.
I picked up my burger, and grease ran down my hand and my arms. The meat should have been seared at a high temperature for a very short time, which caramelizes the exterior, cooks off the grease, and retains the cold pink center. Instead the meat had been fried at a low temperature, and was an uncooked greasy mess. No waitress in sight. This was not my party, but my other nine family members were equally displeased, not matter what they ordered...Strike Three.
In baseball it's three strikes and you're out!
I have been visiting Slovakia for the past 24 years, and often stay for 6 months at a time. Steakpark was one of the two worst dining experiences I have had in this beautiful country.
