Nice hotel located just steps off the city square. My room was in building 650 years old (one wall in my room is UNESCO protected). The room was great, almost minimalist Scandinavian design overlooking the street outside (which you can't really see the streets are so narrow). Staff is very helpful and friendly. No elevator if carrying heavy luggage. Even though in old town, taxi pick up is very short walk away. I hope to stay again.

They have done a beautiful job of preserving the history of these beautiful buildings while adding bits of modern luxury. My room even had a UNESCO plaque on the wall. I had a spacious double room that over looked the street. Since it is the off season noise from the bar across the street was not a problem. My favorite part was the claw foot tub! They provided luxury bath salts and bath foam. You can expect a few minor inconveniences such as the toilet across the room from the sink or curtains that are difficult to operate, but you will also find helpful staff and a delicious breakfast. They breakfast has something for everyone! And especially enjoyed having a whole pot of tea.

First time at Merchant House. Second stay in Tallinn. I'll be back. Perfectly located in the Old Town. Great room, great breakfast - plenty of atmosphere. helpful staff. Very reasonably priced. Walk everywhere.

Seems as newly renovated, total of 3 floors. Clean small room but some smell from the bathroom. Breakfast area and buffet was good. Personnel very polite. Walking distance to most attractions in old town.

The pictures look great don't they?
Our experience did not match our expectations or the promises the description held.
The hotel lacked atmosphere and the room was nothing to write home about. Almost empty hotel, few guests and it did feel half closed.
A few niggles in our room but did not complain, for 2 nights not an issue. From a PR point of view, a room upgrade would have been in order. Breakfast is a let down with very average food and not so clean utensils. We certainly did not experience any of the grandeur advertised.
The staff were excellent though, very efficient and friendly.
