www.riga-hostel.com - on Marstalu Street, close to St Peter's Church in the Old Town and close to bus and train station. This is a new hostel just setting up: newly refurbished, very friendly, with a bright communal kitchen where people gather to chat about their travels, watch television, cook if they wish, and use the free internet. The bedroom with ensuite bath/shower was huge and newly fitted out. They were very helpful in finding out about buses to Tallin as well. There were four flights of stairs to our room at the top so bear this in mind if you are unfit or disabled. It wasn't amazingly cheap, at 40 euros per person per night for the double ensuite, but cheaper than a hotel, and of a very good standard. Free coffee was provided in the kitchen but it was so cheap to buy breakfast at one of the little coffeehouses that we didn't use that facility. Check out the website.
