Absolutely outstanding, five star accommodation with gorgeous views set on the stunning waiheke island. Could not have asked for better service or a more beautiful setting for our stay. From small touches like airport and vineyard transfers, cocktail hour by the pool, breakfast on our room terrace and arranging special spa treatments (best massage we have had in a long time); to the lovely spacious rooms, gorgeous pool and beautiful spa and sauna, it was an amazing and relaxing getaway. Highly recommended for a special trip!

Delamore Lodge was touted as a luxury lodge by our travel agent. Having stayed in several high end lodges in NZ I expected no less than spectacular. Was I ever disappointed. The overall room was very dated and lacked any discernible architectural style. The bathroom was old and not very clean. Mold in the shower floor corners and not just a bit. Countertops were old varnished wood and sticky. The makeup mirror had a dust ball on the hinge showing very little QC on the cleaning. I feel that the place is tired and in dire need of a remodel.
Service was average. We only stayed two nights. (tried to find other accommodations after seeing the place but everything was sold out except one mid level hotel in Auckland CBD. Since we were already in an average hotel, we stayed.
The canapés were served with no napkins (?). They were alright but not luxury lodge quality like others we experienced in NZ. The breakfast the first morning was good however the glass top table was dirty as well as the water glasses. They were promptly resolved but should have never been presented to a guest. The second morning breakfast was clearly the regular chef and the meal was very good.
We did not eat dinner so no comments there other than during canapés the smoke from the kitchen permeated the living room. The manager said that was because of the wind direction (?). Sounded odd to me.

The lodge location was very nice. Our view was obscured by vegetation. It is a stunning location. The weeds outside our patio were a signal of poor maintenance as well as the cushion on the wall bench hanging askew due to a failed fastener. Our experience at other lodges is that they provide at least one complimentary bottle of water a night. Delamore did not.

The lodge manager was pleasant but did not have the training or understanding of what guests would expect at a true luxury lodge. We did not meet the owner.

For the price there are better alternatives on the island. This place is well beyond it's expiration date.

Thank you for taking the time for your review.

I am sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay and the architectural design of the lodge was not to your taste. The design is based on our traditional Maori fishhook moulding into the hillside which take advantage of the uninterrupted views of the Hauraki Gulf and outer islands.

The owner and staff are passionate about Delamore Lodge and the service of excellence we work hard to provide.

Delamore Lodge is constantly being updated each season with the most recent upgrade finishing in Oct 15. This is an on-going project and is not tired or outdated at all. However we understand that the building and décor was not to your preference.

The rooms are cleaned twice daily and immediately of hearing of your complaint upon leaving the property about mould in the bathroom the manager checked the suite and could not find any evidence of this. The view from your suite has wide sweeping views of the ocean and outer islands with native bush surround. We have a full time gardener who takes pride in working on our extensive gardens. Guest feedback has always been positive.

The wall bench hanging fastener had come loose and was rectified on your departure.

We understand that it was a concern that the owner did not meet you. The owner of Delamore Lodge lives in Auckland and it would be impossible to be here 24/7 all year to meet all of our guests. However if an appointment had of been made she would have been delighted to come to Waiheke to meet with you.

Enjoyed my recent stay at Delamore. It offers fabulous views from the common areas and the rooms, all of which are presented very elegantly. I only had one night there, and didn't have dinner there, but my breakfast was excellent, as were the canapés offered with evening drinks. It's a classy place, but the atmosphere is relaxed and not at all precious, which I liked. Rosalyn and her staff are a charming and helpful bunch, and Really make guests feel welcome. No doubt, it is priced, but if you're looking for a special stay on Waiheke, I'd definitely recommend the Delamore Lodge.

We flew into Auckland from the States and were looking for someplace luxurious to spend the first few nights while we recovered from the 22 hours of travel and the jet lag. I found Delamore Lodge through TripAdvisor and we booked for three nights. Because of our flight schedule, we ended up staying the first night at The Langham in Auckland and then took the ferry over to Waiheke the following morning. John met us and drove us the less than five minutes back to the Delamore Lodge.

The grounds are gorgeous, as are the views. John is an amazing host and Donna's food was excellent -- the views, John, and Donna are the three biggest reasons to come here and they could not have been more wonderful. John especially did so much to make our stay on Waiheke enjoyable; his recommendations for restaurants and wineries were spot on.

Another plus was really good Wi-Fi, especially for New Zealand. My husband and I both, unfortunately, had some work we had to catch up on at the beginning of our stay, and we were really comfortable by the fire in the living room/breakfast room for our first day. The tramping trails (hiking to us Americans) in the area were also very nice, though muddy due to the recent rain.

From an amenities standpoint, they really have thought of everything, down to a beach bag and towels in the closet if you want to go down to the cove. Our suite, while spacious, was a little too neutral for our personal taste, though I'm sure many other people would love it. The bathroom was enormous and, again, I'm sure a lot of guests love the layout, but we're not fans of an open shower because it gets too cold. The giant windows in the bathroom were also not to our personal taste because you never knew when someone would come along the path; there were sheer curtains you could close, and the views are incredible, but, again, just not our taste.

Our biggest disappointment is that the infinity pool is advertised as heated, but they do not heat it enough to swim in it May through September (New Zealand winter). While we understood it would be very expensive to keep it heated through the coldest months, it would have been nice if they had stipulated that on their web site, as the infinity pool was a major factor in our choosing to book here. The massive hot tub was very nice and was available, but had no views.

We also had a couple of strange encounters with the owner; she didn't remember that she had already met us (there were only four people there while we were there) and then, both times, proceeded to push us quite hard to book a winery tour. It really left us with the impression that she must have had a financial stake in the tour company! We aren't big organized tour people; we ended up renting a car and touring the island by ourselves, which was a great way to spend a day.

In the end, we felt that the Delamore was a little overpriced for what we got; I think, with the exchange rate, we ended up paying close to $800 US per night once all of the taxes and fees were added on at the end (this was the ONLY place we stayed in a month of traveling that did not quote their rate with taxes). We understood there was a premium for being on an island, along with the small size allowing for that boutique experience, but for that same price you can stay in some of the greatest hotels in the world. This was definitely the nicest place we saw on Waiheke. If we had the trip to do over again, though, we would have only stayed 1-2 nights and then moved back to the mainland.

John and Donna, thank you again for making our stay so lovely! Along with the view, you are definitely the best part of the Delamore!

Thank you for your comments - thank you for giving us the opportunity to clear up some misunderstandings on your stay

Rates - We believe you may have got our property confused with another on this subject
Our rates are and have always been published in NZD currency inclusive of all tax - there are no other tax added in
Your rates commented on are incorrect, in September when you believed you stayed with us, the rates are NZD $944.00 per night which converts to $627.40 US inclusive of tax - this has been the same rate for several years.
Pool
In regards to the pool - this has always been published on website as not heated during the months of May - September - the shape of the pool does not allow for a cover and heating the pool still does not make it warm enough to swim in without that cover in the coldest of months - we are still seeking a solution to this, and hopefully have arrived at one for this season - It is not a matter of expense of heating during winter - it simply does not heat well enough, hence the large heated undercover Jacuzzi and sauna to enjoy
Bathrooms
There is no path outside the suites, all have their own private gardens to cut off guests walking down the step grade cliff front outside their suites
Tour
None of Delamore's staff nor the owner has any financial interest in any tour company - we do try and ensure that the guests are given the opportunity to know their different options while on the island and during your stay with us, we apologise if you felt this was not the case.
Best wishes

We were fortunate to spend 3 nights at Delamore Lodge which is on beautiful Waiheke Island. We took the hire car across on the ferry from Half Moon Bay, so we were able to tour around the island for half a day. We were greeted by Nick who as well as giving us a map with all his places of interest and scenic view spots, had a great banter and helped with the really laid back feel of Delamore Lodge.
There is a maximum of 12 guests at the lodge so it is never going to feel crowded. The rooms are first class, with panoramic views. Breakfast is included and basically you can decide what you want and Eddie and Donna, who alternated as chefs for our 3 days will cook it for you. Dinner is available if you give notice (24 hours). We dined in the first night and Eddie did us proud - thanks Eddie.
There are drinks and canapes at 6-6.45 pm every evening and the chance to share a beverage and a chat with the other guests. A good range of the local wine is on offer, something which the island is famous for. Very convivial and a good chance to get restaurant tips.
The next 2 nights we ventured out to Mudbrick and Oyster Inn. We dined with 2 lovely Americans who were staying at Delamore at Mudbrick, so the company was great, as was the location. Couldn't say the same for the food or service unfortunately. Oyster Inn is much more laid back and is in town at Oneroa - fish and chips with decent white - nicely done chaps.
Delamore will book all outings, restaurants and transport so you don't have to worry.
It was the last stop for us on a 2 week driving tour of NZ North island and was planned as the luxurious highlight....and it was.
Well done and thanks to all especially Nick and Eddie.
