Twisting and turning up and down the switch backs. This road has great views at every turn. We stopped at several pull-offs and wondered around. When we reached the pass, we got out and climbed a small escarpment and the views got even better. We walked over to a glacier/permanent snow field, and just stood and gazed at the numerous views.

Took this route towards Cody Wy the end of September. It’s actually hard to put into words the incredible views this trip has. Charles Kuralt called it the most beautiful highway in the USA and yuh know what I have to agree with him. I’ve lived in Colorado for over 40 years so I don’t say this lightly. Yellowstone has been on my list for awhile but this just made it that much more enjoyable. So do yourself a favor just drive it and see for yourself.

This was a highlight of our road trip! Part of the road was closed - we went as far as we could go! The view was incredible! A little scary because of the winding road and elevation. But the view was breathtaking!

This drive was incredible, as someone from Colorado, I am very familiar with mountain passes, but this one was definitely worth the detour! We came up from Cody along the Dead Indian Pass and then took the Beartooth Hwy north until we reached the Beartooth Pass. We climbed the pile of rocks to reach the "summit" and we even saw a pika playing hide and seek with us. The switchbacks were amazing and the summit provided a great vantage point of the forest. We stopped at one of the lovely lakes (back down the pass on the South side) and enjoyed a quiet picnic. A waterfall was right along the road further South, which was a nice stop. I highly recommend this ride to anyone coming to Yellowstone!

When we left Red Lodge we got into the fog before making it up very far, but after a couple of miles we got above the clouds and the views were just outstanding. The road itself is not for the fainthearted, but the road is safe and well maintained if you pay attention to where you are going and slow down when appropriate. It is an engineering marvel to realize they carved the road out of the side of the mountains and the views as you go up and over the crest just keep getting better and better. I had read about this being one of the best scenic drives in America or in the world, and after driving over it, I would agree. This is not to be missed and is worth going out of your way to find.
