We made our 1st trip over the Beartooth Highway was absolutely amazing. We were worried it would not be open so early in June but we lucked out. Planning another trip June 2018

Drove over the Beartooth Pass in late August from Red Lodge to Yellowstone. Loved every minute and almost turned around to drive back over! My sis and I were a little hesitant since we're from Florida and not accustomed to mountain driving but it was FAR easier than I expected. Also, I am afraid of heights. I drove the entire length and we stopped at numerous pull offs to enjoy the views. We also hiked and little while on the way down. Take your time and enjoy the drive.

A well worth while day trip out the northeast gate from Yellowstone National Park headed up into Montana. This was a beautiful pass with lakes and overlooks and varying scenery. We would definitely recommend this road trip.

I have family in the area (near Cody, WY) and so they took us on a drive along the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway and from there, the Beartooth Highway. We then took this back to Red Lodge MT, and took HWY 120 back to Cody.

It is an amazing drive worth setting aside an afternoon for - it's not long, but there are many twists, turns and high elevation switchbacks. Plus, the views are stunning and worth stopping to view!

This drive takes you along the Beartooth Mountains (via the Beartooth Plataeu), above the treeline in many cases. I've been here in the summer and had a snowball fight :) Places of interest are the 'Top of the World' store, mountain lakes (I believe we stopped at Island Lake), many places to view the 'beartooth', an overlook of Pilot's Peak and Index Peak, and Rock Creek Vista Lookout with some great switchbacks overlooking the valleys on the Montana side.

Note - this highway is closed in the winter (from about late October to May).

If you don't like windy roads then this Highway is definitely not for you! We were recommended to travel this highway by a number of friends who have been to the States before. We weren't disappointed! Awesome views at every turn, mountains, meadows, snow, wind!! (And HIGH altitude!) It's all there but all worth the effort! We left from Cody and ended up in Red Lodge for lunch. We then turned around and came back along the same direction and into the North East entrance to Yellowstone. There are plenty of pullouts to stop and take in the breathtaking scenery as well. It was definitely worth the couple of hours extra that it took to drive. A must see if you're in the vicinity!
