This hotel feels enough close to perfect: not too fancy, breakfasts included, a nice in-room refrigerator & microwave, Irish pub downstairs with delicious and reasonably priced Shepherd's Pie (and the beef soup prompted me to take my first foodie picture). Who could ask for anything more?
Plus so much within easy walking distance: National Gallery of Art, Ford's Theatre, Chinatown, a couple old Catholic churches, Shakespeare Theater. Diversity of the area is off-the-charts: rich, poor, black, white, Chinese, hipsters, tourists, the young. “The stranger filleth the eye” goes an Arab proverb.
Nearby is tiny Chinese grocery mart and it felt very authentic. The smell in there was very Asian, mostly noodles and fishy though I didn't immediately see any noodles or fish. Newspapers (USA Today and another one) were written in those wacky Chinese symbols. I felt like commenting to cashier how impressed I was by how Chinese this place looked and how it could be a movie set.More
