Description: J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room. A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!

We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed the great drinks and oysters. It was packed on a Saturday so we had to wait and stand by the bar until a spot opened up. We ended up eating at the bar and it had these cool wooden bar trays for convenience. The bar tender was nice but he seemed overwhelmed during the chaos.

Ate at this location while visiting Georgetown. Had a great time during brunch. The food and service were equally amazing. Great way to start a nice day in Georgetown. Eat here and then go on a nice stroll by the river.

Wonderful atmosphere. Dark historic bar with open windows onto the sidewalk to people watch. Just be careful going upstairs to the restrooms. Steep stairs, no handrail on part of the stairs and the floor is uneven. Our waiter was fabulous, informative and very attentive. I had a beet, kale, spinach, cranberry, goat cheese salad and added shrimp and bacon. It was WONDERFUL. My husband had a hamburger which he enjoyed. Patty looked prepackaged not freshly made. That is the only thing we think they could improve on. Manager stood up front, looked nervous and never checked on tables. She needs to work on her customer skills. Great experience. We will go back when we are in town.

We popped in for a quick bite and had the crab entree which was really good to share with a bottle of cold wine. Service was good and it looked a popular place! Would return again.
