Just saw the great Lisa Fischer. Food was uneven. French Onion soup, only OK, red beans and rice - go to Popeye's after the show, pork chops excellent. Free refills on sodas without asking. Service was fine.

However, get there early (like 2 hours early for the first show (you can't for the second) and sit down front. If you get there late sit away from the kitchen door, or you will hear clanging dishes ala Waffle House during the show even though no one is supposed to talk so as not to bother your listening. Also the door will constantly open and close lighting up part of the darkened venue.

We went to late show. The music was characteristically outstanding. The table service was uncharacteristically poor.

The quality of the food is reminiscent of that one might receive in a catering hall; however, the service was generally good. This was an exception to what we’ve become accustomed to.

Blues Alley is a first class jazz venue that we will return to, however, it is not a first class restaurant.

This is a wonderful place to enjoy Jazz. We were doubly blessed with enjoying Ravi Coltrane (John Coltrane's son) at this great venue. The seating is a little tight but not impossible to enjoy the music. As a bonus, the fare is interesting and good and the wine is quite reasonable. Looking forward to coming back for more Jazz and ambiance.

If you live in or are visiting DC and love music, this is the place for you. Whether a new act or career musicians, you will really enjoy it here. You can order dinner while you enjoy the music.

During a long weekend visit to Washington, D.C., my wife and I decided to take in a show and have dinner at Blues Alley. We have always enjoyed our visits to Blues Alley and this time was no different. We arrived about 75 minutes before the show which provided plenty of time to order dinner and eat before Freddy Cole took the stage. The staff were warm and welcoming as always and we were able to be seated at a table near the stage. For my meal, I had the jambalaya which was very good. It had a nice spicy bite with a generous amount of sausage, chicken and shrimp.

I gave seen Freddy Cole perform live before and his venue was the perfect place for his show. The stage can be seen well from anywhere in the venue and the sound is excellent. I never cease to be amazed at the world class musicians I am able to see at this very special venue.
