Visited this restaurant with friends for lunch. Located near the Grand Hyatt, Zaytinya offers messe (small dishes) that reflect the best of Greek, Lebanese, and Turkish cuisine. The restaurant space with its large window and open seating areas provides an excellent environment in which to explore and taste the diverse foods of the Mediterranean. The wait staff was helpful, especially as we sorted the various options. Our group ordered a selection, including Baba Ghannouge, Falafel, Shish Taouk (a grilled chicken), Piyaz, Patates Tiganites, Havuç Koftesi, and Shrimp Maroulosa. Although it sounds like a lot of food, we were a large group and wanted to sample a variety of plates. The food impeccablely prepared did not disappoint. We finished the meal with excellent Turkish Coffee and orders of the Turkish Delight (walnut ice cream, orange caramel sauce, pistacchio), an excellent dessert to share. The relaxed environment added to our meal's enjoyment and made the lunch memorable. I will definitely revisit on my next visit to DC. Reservations are suggested unless you want to wait. Enjoy your meal.

Overall it was a great dining experience. Everything we tried was delicious. Don't miss the Turkish Delight...quite possibly the best dessert I have ever tried.

Try the brussel sprouts! You will be amazed. Just eat here - it will be totally worth your time and money.

Oh, and our waiter was beyond good. He knew every ingredient and preparation of every dish. Perfect for a place like this!

Zaytinya. Close to Ford Theatre and the Spy museum. Dining in Washington is far from boring There are a variety of comfortable really good restaurants. A good one for lunch, especially on a Sunday when many are shut, is Zaytinya. Interesting Metiteranean/Greek menu. Fantastic for vegetarians, superb gluten free options plus something for everyoner. Great buzz, busy, expert staff and fine wash-rooms. If you want to know where else to go for reliably good and varied food and atmosphere in Washington, check out my other recommendations.

second trip to Zaytinya...very moderne and busy "buzz" atmosphere yet acoustics are still amazingly good so intimate conversation as well as large group discussion is easy...food is terrific: small plates are beautifully presented and allow unique combinations of mediterranean "interpretive" cuisine (ie the brussel sprouts are amazing: be sure to order them, even if you don't think you're a brussel sprouts person :)...wait staff is efficient and knowledgeable/helpful about menu items.
