“Awesome for kids and parents”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

Went to DC with our 3 kids for the first time. Kids loved the bunk beds and their own separate area with flat screen tv, xbox, games, etc.

Rooms very clean and spacious with a cool vibe. Definitely not a cookie cutter hotel. Bathroom was a little small but was nice.

Really liked the complimentary wine hour every evening. Staff was very friendly with the kids and gave them toys etc. from a treasure chest.

It's about 4 or 5 blocks to the dupont circle metro stop. kids loved taking the train everywhere.

I've got to say, travelling with kids in one hotel room is usually not fun. With the kids bunk area, separated with a heavy curtain, you can relax with lights on and have cocktails etc. in your room with your kids fast asleep!

Room Tip: Bunk bed rooms are great for kids!

After falling for the Kimpton brand last year, we chose the Rouge for our first trip to Washington DC. It's a great little hotel with a funky, red retro feel and is located in a nice neighbourhood. Loved the sparkly, red floor in the lobby! And the canine guests we bumped into during our stay. Also, Kristin and Scott on the front desk were very friendly and helpful. Couldn't fault anything.

Tip: Try a meal at Firefly, about a 10 minute walk away. Quality food with a contemporary twist, including awesome burgers and truffle parmesan fries.

Had a great room, the bathroom needs updating and could be a little bigger. Rooms near elevator and in front of building can be noisey. They allow pets so just rememeber that if your not into dogs and cats staying in your room before you or hanging out in the lobby. Neard barking most nights, had to turn on a/c unit to drowned out noise

We stayed at the Rouge from April 2-April 6. The entire staff was wonderful from the minute we checked in to a warm send off upon departure. We traveled to DC with our 3 kids over Spring Break. The game station they provided kept the kids occupied for a little down time from sight seeing while we enjoyed the wine reception. The hotel is nicely located within walking distance of the White House and the monuments. Tina, head of housekeeping was wonderful and made sure we had a spacious room with comfortable beds. Kiah at the front desk had excellent suggestions for planning our day. And both knew the neighborhood well for excellent restaurant recommendations. Milton, from maintenance was awesome setting up the xbox, and probably our kids favorite staff member. I can't remember ever staying in a hotel where our family remembered the names of the wonderful staff members that offered such gracious hospitality. I look forward to returning to the Rouge on our next trip to DC and also checking out additional Kimpton properties. Join the Kimpton InTouch for wonderful perks during your stay like free wifi and credits to the mini-bar. The Rouge is truly a home away from home.

Room Tip: Book early if traveling with kids to get bunk bed rooms.

My third stay and it NEVER disappoints! The hotel is not in a tourist area. It is a former apt building off Massachusetts Ave and located across from the Australian embassy and a church. That being said, the area is quiet at night which is a plus if you are on business. When you look out the front door, you can see the White House and Washington Monument a mile away. The hotel is within walking distance to the Dupont area and about three blocks from a local Starbucks and CVS, and four blocks to a Whole foods etc. I feel safe to walk at night. The rooms are typical Kimpton very clean- mod/retro furnishings, red accents and curtains, and great desk with huge flat screen tv. The bathrooms are smallish (compared to other Kimpton hotels in DC and in US) and slightly dark but clean and well equipped. The front desk is FANTASTIC. Everyone is friendly and very helpful. When the printer in the business center (one computer only) broke down, they immediately printed my 6 page document from my flash drive and made sure that I had everything I needed for a business meeting. They were also extremely helpful with suggestions for dinner and also where to find the closest pharmacy. I have stayed at the Palomar and at the Helix in DC and the Rouge is by far my favorite. It is less crowded and noisy than the Palomar and much cleaner and has better staff than the Helix (which was dirty and grimy). One tip, if you want breakfast in the hotel in the mornings eat downstairs in the lounge. It has everything you can think of and great service. They also had to-go cups for coffee and tea so I could bring a cup with me to a meeting. The only difficulty I have is that there is no one to help with luggage (cab drivers in DC notoriously unhelpful despite tips) into and out of the hotel. Also often no one to help call a taxi, I had to walk 1/2 block to Mass Ave. That would be my only suggestion to change. I am looking forward to my next stay next month!

Room Tip: Higher floor is always better--don't stay near elevator

We stayed at the Rouge from 30 March to 3 April. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The flight from London had landed early, so we got to the Rouge well in time for the amazing hosted wine-hour (our favourite part of the day). We enjoyed meeting the staff and other guests (we Brits were rather thin on the ground so considered a bit of a novelty!). This was our second visit to Washington and we were offered lots of advice on where to go/what to see.

Our room on the 10th floor was spacious and clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds we've ever slept in (fantastic after a day/evening pavement pounding). The Hotel gets two thumbs up for a great bathroom; the magnifying mirror even had a light! We liked the quirky decor and the 'red' theme was not overwhelming.

We'd joined Kimpton InTouch, so got the 'raid the mini bar' benefit and free wi-fi. Booking through Virgin also gained us the free yummy breakfast. Most impressed with the fresh fruit and choice of cereals. There was freshly baked bread and great coffee.

The location is good, just off Scott Circle. Washington is a walking city so expect to do just that. It's only about 30mins walk to the centre of Georgetown (thoroughly recommended).

This was a great choice for us and we'll certainly look at other Kimpton Hotels on our next visit to the US.

I booked with the rouge hotel because I wanted to stay somewhere different than the usuall Hilton or Marriott. After I discover this kimpton property in the middle of dc, I said why not!! All I can say is I was not disappointed... The hotel is in the middle of everything, my mother and I walked everywhere and if we got tired cab rides were never more than 10$.. The rooms are a good size and the beds are very comfy!! The hotel staff is amazing Steven at the front desk is excellent, he helped me surprise my mother with flowers and sake in the room which she loved... Kiah at the front desk was familiar with the area and suggested an excellent restaurant.. All the staff in the hotel was friendly and always willing to help.. Hamid.. The hardest working server and Abdul the bellman/ cab hailer lol!! They have happy hours every evening, which are great after a long day of walking the city!! But If your not into boutique style hotels with excellent personal service then u should probably stick to the non personal boring Marriott!! This place was great I am now an kimpton in touch member and a big fan of kimpton hotels!!
