Nice for what and where it is.
It has very standard, almost old, mid-grade hotel amenities (bedding, furniture, TV, soap, etc). The grounds are immaculate. The pool is also very clean. The restaurant on site is also popular.
We made this trip to scuba dive Monterey. The bathroom heat lamp and exhaust fan were excellent to dry our gear overnight. We didn't stay closer to Monterey as we have friends that live in Aptos.
IMPORTANT: Do not miss dinner at the Shadowbrook restaurant in Capitola. Excellent food in a beautiful mountain and riverside setting.
We stayed here for two nights. At check-in we experienced the all-to-standard, "your King-size bed is treated as a request only." It seems many hotels these days, in certain areas, do not make guarantees anymore, only take "requests." I highly recommend a pool-view room.
Summary: Aptos is surrounded by coastal redwoods. This place caters to locals who know the area and are getting away to the Santa Cruz area. It is not a resort hotel; it is not on a seacliff. I do not recommend it for travelers looking for a quick stop and a meal. That said, it is nice for where it is (Aptos, Capitola area) and suited us fine.More
