“A comfortable & convenient hotel footsteps to downtown Aspen”
Reviewed 14 September 2011

I recently travelled to Aspen from Vail as I was in town for business. The Durant hotel is a very charming hotel located within only 2 blocks to downtown Aspen. Footsteps to town and the ski lifts in the winter time, the Durant offers a lot for its value. The communal area offers tea and snacks, a fire place, couches, wireless internet and a nice place to relax and chat with other guests if interested. After a long day, we enjoyed their top notch hot tub on their outside deck. It is a nice and quiet hotel with extremely comfortable beds. I would definitely recommend the hotel Durant to anyone traveling to Aspen as it offers travelers a comfortable home away from home feel in a gorgeous town.

My husband and I go to Aspen every year for the Motherlode volleyball tournament and have stayed in many hotels or condos over the years. For the last few years we have stayed at the Hotel Durant and will continue to do so in the future. The staff is the best - friendly and professional. In particular, Brian from the front desk is always very helpful with everything from hiking and biking information to tips on reasonably priced dining in Aspen (we didn't know this was possible). The hotel is very clean as is the hot tub (it also actually has hot water which we haven't found to be the case in some other locations in town). We have found that most lodging in Aspen in fairly expensive so the service is key in deciding where to stay. We highly recommend the Hotel Durant as a great lodging choice in Aspen.

Room Tip: The best room is the third floor balcony room in the front - great view of Aspen Mountain from the b...

Stayed one night while on a M/C trip. Rooms where smaller but well furnished. The hotel attendant Brian was great. Pointed us to a good restaurant and had a great continental breakfast set in the AM.

First time to Aspen but from what I have heard this is one of the best values you will find. Would highly recommend.

I stayed at the Hotel Durant with my sister for one night in a standard room with two beds for $125/ night. We thought this price was extremely reasonable considering most of the hotels in the area were closer to or over $200/ night. This place doesn't have a pool, gym or many other extra amenities, but if you are looking for a great place to stay that is budget friendly, clean and convenient this hotel is the spot.

The hotel was cozy and clean. Not super fancy or modern, but very nice and welcoming. The hotel had free parking in front. There was also free breakfast which was an added benefit, but nothing to write home amount.

Our room was on the smaller side, but that was to be expected with purchasing the cheapest option. The room and bathroom were clean. The beds were comfortable with soft and plush linens. Our room had a walk in shower that had shampoo, body wash and lotion inside the shower in large dispensers. Inside the closet (which is a decent size) were two very comfortable robes. The room had many drawers and a good amount of closet space if you were interested in unpacking all of your belongings.

PROs:
Free WiFi
Quiet atmosphere
Comfortable beds
Walkable location
Great price

CONs:
Lugging heavy luggage up a flight of stairs
Lack of convenient wall outlets
Some outdated items in the room

Things to consider:
Hotel doesn't have an elevator, so if you aren't on the main floor you will need to take your luggage up or down a flight or two of stairs.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the main floor so you don't have to take your luggage up and down the stairs.

My husband and I stayed here for a night on a road trip. We live in Denver and come to Aspen a lot and thus have stayed at most of the places in Aspen at one point. We were very impressed with this find. It is not high end but a small, comfortable, clean, very affordable hotel right in town with a very european and family ran feeling. I was especially happy when I arrived because there were freshly baked cookies, fruits, cheeses and tea for the guests. The gentleman who checked us in was very nice and helpful. Our rooms were super clean and had everything we needed including a mini fridge and lots of pillows which we love (Note: the rooms are small, european style rooms). We were also happy to find out that our stay included a continental breakfast of pastries, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal fruit and coffee. We couldn't have asked for more for the price. We will definitely stay here again.

Think European small hotel. The rooms and baths are small, and lack glitz. But they are immaculate and well cared for. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is superb, just far enough from the hustle and bustle to avoid the hustle and bustle. Most rooms have a pleasant view, some have small balconies.

If you want space and amenities and a gourmet breakfast, this is not the place for you. If you want Aspen glitz, this is not the place for you. If you've stayed at places like this in Europe, and want a nice boutique hotel that's very reasonably priced for Aspen....

We were very disappointed in this hotel. For $280 per night we expected much better. The rooms and lobby are pretty shabby and in need of updating and remodeling. The rooms are very small, with very little storage. The breakfast was adequate but nothing special. On the positive side, the location is good, the beds were comfortable and our room was quiet. The staff and other guests were friendly and the hot tub was nice. They also have wine, cheese and cookies in the afternoon, but again just average. With a little effort this could be a much nicer property. I would not stay there again.
