Great place for a quick beer and snack while walking the beautiful beach. Fishermen casting off the pier and lots of fish visible beneath the clear waters of the Emerald Coast

If you fish, this may be a good place to spend an afternoon fishing off the pier. And it's a walk worth taking for the vistas over the Bay and the fish swimming in the clear blue waters below. But the restaurant is absolutely nothing special at lunch time, though the menu descriptions sounded a lot better than the food that arrived. But it's a good stop for raw clams and oysters and a cold beer, and the service is friendly.

I have patronized Rod & Reel many, many times. I have taken out-of-town guests here. I choose it because it offers a spectacular view in an unpretentious cozy little setting. It is heavenly to dine as if you are sitting in the middle of the water, watching boats and dolphins.

Unfortunately, they really don't deserve any kudos beyond that. Food is just okay. Have been many many times for breakfast and a handful of times for lunch/dinner. Have tried just about everything for breakfast and can't say there's anything all that good. French toast this last visit was terrible. Mushy and not a good flavor.

After giving this place many chances, I can fairly say that it has been chosen despite the food and service. This last visit really made me question if it's really even worth the view and I think not.

We brought guests and were a party of 8 on a Sunday morning. We were told a 45 minute wait. Fine. We expected that for a large party on a weekend morning. We told the hostess that we would be okay being 2 parties of 4 if that would help make the wait less. She said no, and that it would not make a difference. We watched parties of 4 who gave their name after us be seated before us, so obviously it would have been better to submit our names as 2 parties of 4. But okay fine, we will wait longer so that we can all be together. Well after about an hour when the breakfast crowd had completely thinned out, we were seated but at 2 different tables that were not together. What??

Their corner table which seats 8 or 9 had been vacated within a minute of us sitting down, as had 2 other tables near us (one beside us and one behind us). So why in the world was our party apart?

Before ordering anything, I got up and asked the hostess if we could possibly sit together now that there were so many empty tables and her response was that we would have to work it out with our servers because she had sat us with 2 different servers in 2 different sections and sometimes servers get upset about that. WHAT?? We were a party of 8 that waited a long time to be sat as a party of 8 and now you...the hostess...is making wait staff squabbles our problem and an excuse to keep us seated separately with empty tables around us?? What terrible customer service!

Furthermore, our servers themselves knew we were a "separated party" and not once did either server offer to move one party near the other or push 2 tables together now that the restaurant had cleared out from the breakfast crowd and had several empty tables. Totally unacceptable!

They really come across as if they could care less about you here and it shows in the people that are representing the front of the house. With the exception of one long, dark haired waitress (heavy accent; Ukrainian maybe?) who is quite pleasant, the wait staff is perpetually cranky; always acting like they are doing you a favor! The hostess on this particular occasion (nose ring; tattoos) was particularly rude in her interactions with us and others I heard her interact with. It was inexcusable for her not to attempt to accommodate us or to speak to the waitresses about accommodating us. She is, after all, the hostess.

I know it will not phase them to lose a patron in me since they have a view and a steady wait-list but this experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that, view or no view, I really don't want to go back. Food and service here show that they've taken their "fame" for granted.

My favorite place in Anne Maria. For those who haven’t been here before this place is a restaurant located at the end of the pier, with room barely enough for pedestrians to get there. Known for its seafood menu, and surrounded by local fishing rod hopefuls, the “rod” is everything you would want to find in an exotic location: it’s cool, quaint, small, (only one single bathroom for staff and guests, located in the back of the building - While you wait, admire Saint Petersburg’s bridge in the horizon, and the schools of mullet chasing fishermen) and just plain awesome. One would have a hard time in explaining why the two stories’ wooden-frame building is still standing, but we are all so happy it is.
