“Coombs House was the greatest!”
Reviewed 15 March 2012

We received royal treatment, with champagne and chocolates as soon as we arrived, a picnic lunch and wine, use of bikes anytime, breakfast served to our table and coffee and cookies regularly. The inn was furnished in antiques and felt just like the original home of the Coombs. We even thought the lady of the house was haunting us in her old bedroom! There was also a diary to write down our experiences, and there were amenities like a jacuzzi and an electric fireplace. This is a very good location, within walking distance to town and museums. History is noted in the dining room reading area.

Room Tip: Upstairs is more private but it is harder to get up the steps. I liked the main house where things w...

The person who checked us in, Estella, was very personable and helpful, but that's about where the hospitality ended. The room (Wilson) was spacious, but the bathroom was tiny, and the room could have used a good cleaning. The scatter rugs on the hardwood floor were dirty, and there was accumulated dust in many corners of the room, thresholds, etc. Breakfast the next a.m. was mediocre with a sausage casserole served with canned fruit - I took a bite of each and left it. Coffee and creamer ran out twice and there was only one woman who was busy serving breakfast to about 15 couples, and couldn't keep up with replenishments needed. As we left the property, I said goodbye to the woman at the desk, who was the very same woman who served breakfast. She barely looked up and said a very distracted "goodbye" - I'm sure she was busy/overworked, but this is not the type of B&B I'm used to staying in. I'm not looking for luxury or for people to fall all over me, but I do want cleanliness and a good breakfast, and neither were available here. This is run more like a hotel masquerading as a B&B.

Room Tip: I would look for other accommodations in the area before staying here again.

I found the Coombs House Inn on a Groupon offer. As Apalachicola is a favorite town of ours & we had never stayed at a B&B, it was a perfect opportunity to make a reservation. And how glad we are as we had an absolutely wonderful experience. The Coombs room was beautiful & comfortable. The two breakfasts that we ate were fabulous. We did not move our car until we checked out as the Inn is very convenient to the town. Our seafood meals were excellent. And, all of the shop keepers, food servers, & townsfolk were so friendly & welcoming. We can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: We definitely like the upper floor as it is quieter. The Coombs room was perfect.

The COOMBS B&B caught our attention, along with some other displays, in the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit issue. This is an interesting B&B and we did enjoy staying here. While our bed had a bit of a sag in the center and the couple above us were noisy using their jacuzzi, we enjoyed our stay. We had a pleasant breakfast of quiche and evening wine the night before. I would go back again if in the area. Also think about trying The Hole in the Wall restaurant. This looks like what it sounds like, but the food and fellowship are great.

Room Tip: Pick rooms in the main house or second floor. Sound from second floor can be audible downstairs.

Worst experience I have ever had! We arrived around 10:00pm and a key with instructions was left in the mailbox.walking in we were in the first room. Sheet of glass between us and the hall. You can hear everything that goes on out there and they can hear you. Bed squeaks so loud and the staff did not even go as far as offering us a " hello" when we walked out of the room the next day. We checked out a day early losing our money but could not stand another creepy night there. Maybe it is lack of privacy, maybe it was the unfriendly staff or the "hauntings " people claim they witnessed there but I felt more uncomfortable there then anywhere I have been. It was as if we were watched the whole time by someone. Very creepy!

Our staff works long hours, this is our standard late check-in procedure. The 'french door' is mostly glass, but the hall is generally very quiet at night. We are sorry you had a bad experience, but many guests since 1994 have stayed in the same room and had pleasant times.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay! The B&B is beautifully decorated, the staff is friendly, helpful and very responsive. If you are going to be in Apachicola this is absolutely the place to stay. You could not possibly regret a stay here.

Room Tip: The Coombs Room was light, airy, large and beautifully decorated. Room 11 while absolutely georgeou...
