I want to start by saying that we gave this property an opportunity to rectify this situation before leaving this review and (like other communication previous to our vacation) we have been ignored.
Before making our "adventure" to TB, we sent numerous emails to ask questions about the resort. Among other questions, we wanted to know how the resort was handling the Sargasso grass, as we knew it was a problem this year. We were assured in two separate emails, that they removed it daily. We also tried to communicate with the resort on times they would take us to a dock to meet our excursion. They explained the cost, but never told us if they would do the trip. We had to contact the excursion and let them know that we didn't even know if we could make it because they were not responding. The wonderful people that own the excursion emailed to no avail, and they finally got the personal cell number to the manager to ask. They declined to take us, so the excursion operator kindly picked us up. Thank God, it was the one day "at" TB (we were on the boat all day) that we enjoyed ourselves.
We were also told that their was WIFI at the restaurant. NOT ONCE did we get service. We asked and they said it was because of the wind one time (not really much wind at all) and another time we asked, we were told it was "spotty" Again, never even picked up a chance to sign on. We were sure it wasn't even available or shut off.
When we arrived, we found out quickly were were the only people who would be on the resort. We arrived to armed Coast Guards on the dock. A little concerning, but found out they stationed nearby. We immediately noticed the Sargasso grass PILED HIGH on the beach. It was obviously not removed daily because it smelled of decay and there were old shoes, trash, old electronics and even a huge dead rat on the grass and beach. We were immediately sick to our stomachs. We chose this resort because we wanted to be able to snorkel, fish and lay out on the beach. We tried very hard to not be upset.
We were brought to our cabanas. NOT what they advertise The bathrooms are full of mold that is peeling off the paint. They are beat up and dilapidated, as shown by others in reviews (we didn't come for the cabana's, were were willing to look over it for the opportunity to lay on the beach, snorkel and fish at our leisure, as other reviewers did). We could see through the cracks in the door and they could easily be pushed open, even when locked. We asked for keys and passcodes to the safes, they couldn't provide them, they had been lost. We again, tried hard to hide our disappointed, because we then realized we would be the only people here with no security whatsoever. At night, I had numerous gekos in my room, the other room and kitchen was infested with ants in the floor boards (fyi, dont try to spray them, they come out of the walls by the THOUSANDS).
We did have our meals at the restaurant, which was good, but very little choices. Things were not available or out of season.

We went on our excursion, we came back late, ate dinner and went back to our rooms for a shower and to go to bed, we were tired from the day on the ocean. Our rooms had not been cleaned. Got into the shower......there was NO WATER! We had no idea where to look for someone to ask about it, nor did we feel comfortable enough to go look for someone at night or complain. We made the decision that we would be leaving. We informed one of the only 3 staff members (we think? some people were there just hanging out it seemed). That we would be leaving the next day.
Thankfully were weren't on a time schedule. Our boat was 30 mins late and we shared it with the three staff, three Coast Guards, and the four of us (this was NOT a big boat)! It was off season, so as soon as we said we were leaving, they all left too!! Who was going to clean the cabana's we were in? We were shocked to say the least!

I will say that the people who worked there were nice. You could tell they were slightly embarrassed by our visit, but there wasn't much they could do. We talked to various people in San Pedro, and they told us that a group of people own this property, that its for sale, and they all bicker between each other- that no progress is ever agreed too.

We found another place to stay in San Pedro, and they had obviously kept up with the beach. So we knew the difference. We were told a lie (twice) so we would not cancel. There was simply no reason to be there. No beach, no snorkeling, no fishing, no staff, horrible living quarters. The days of claiming "off season" are no longer really in effect. If you take someone's money for services, then they expect to get those services.

We take 2-3 international vacations a year, and this, by far, is the worst one we have ever been on. If you insist on going here DO NOT GO DURING OFF SEASON.

We hear that the grass is starting to leave, and high season is coming up, so I am sure things will become slightly better. At least we hope so, for the sake of others wanting to visit a place that could be stunning.

Room tip: they told us our rooms were upgrades, so I would be very worried about any cabana that wasn't 7 or 10

We didn’t stay here but went on a recommendation for a fun golf cart drive from town. It was a riot !! 12 miles north off the beaten path. You lose the concrete road a couple miles north of the bridge then you lose the potholed gravel road about 4 miles north of that. The road turns to the beach and it is about 5 miles along the ocean. It was one of our favorite days

There is snorkeling right from shore here as the barrier reef comes close to shore. It is shallow all less than 10’ but a pretty good current.

We went on a full tank and still had over 1/2 tank on return. Recommend a trip to secret beach in the morning and tranquility bay after lunch. Not for the faint of heart the road is very bumpy but incredible views

We stayed at Tranquility Bay for 3 days. The resort location is stunning - secluded with a white sand beach and reef just off the beach for snorkeling. It's one of the few, if not the only place where you can swim a short distance from the beach and have good snorkeling.

While the location was stunning, the property wasn't. The villas were spacious, but sparsely appointed and decorated. Our living area was huge but was only furnished with a single couch and two chairs - definitely not enough to fill the space. We had a huge outdoor porch the size of a small ballroom, but it only had a small rattan table with 4 chairs when it could've easily accommodated a sectional, a 6-person table, and a few chaise lounges. We had hoped to host our friends at our villa, but couldn't do that for lack of seating.

The buildings needed some major TLC too. You could tell it had "good bones", but paint was peeling off the walls inside and out, outdoor light fixtures were horribly corroded, water damage was apparent throughout the villa, linens/towels/blankets were clean but clearly stained from years of use, doors and windows didn't seal, and even the woodwork around our windows had huge water damage holes where you could see to the outside!

The staff was friendly and responsive. The food was good, but extremely pricey. The snorkeling tour was fun - our guide was great, but the boat broke down. That wasn't too surprising given the overall condition of the resort.

Overall, we had a nice visit. We will not likely return however, unless the owners put some serious work into fixing it up.

We didn’t stay at the resort, but we will next time we go to Belize. One of our favorite things to do is snorkel and explore “under the sea”, and the availability of reef and sea life was excellent and had easy access (unlike the two other places we stayed on our trip to Belize). The guests we met there were in love with the place and devoted in a deep way, returning there each year with their families (some had returned 5-6 times)! The setting is remote, which I like, yet it also has a restaurant/bar on location. When we stay, we’ll buy groceries for breakfast and lunch and drinks in San Pedro then take a boat to the resort, rather than drive a golf cart there as we did on our trip (super bumpy, though fun and we saw lots of lizards and birds). We briefly met the owner of the resort as we were buying a beer at the restaurant, and I liked him immediately.
