“Evev better than last year.”

Second time in two years and I think it is even better! No place better to relax. The wi-fi access in the bar is nice. Great way to catch up on email before dinner. Next year we will do the combo trip beginning with five sister falls rain forest resort ending with Matachica. Perfect.

Room Tip: Pineapple casita is situated perfectly on the beach.

Dearest staff at Matachica:
You have captivated my heart with your genuine warmth and excellent service. You exceeded my expectations from the moment I arrived at the dock of your resort. Thank you for your unparralleled hospitality. I will remember you always.

Note to traveler:
Matachica is the hidden jewel of Belize with it's white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and swaying palm trees located on a secluded beachfront facing the second largest barrier reef. I reserved a sea breaze suite and loved the pomegranite casita assigned to me. The food was amazing! I don't even eat fish but it's all I ate at the Mambo restaurant located at the resort. In fact, a group of 20 people from France arrived at Mambo just to have their wedding reception dinner while I was there. One of our friends left the resort to have dinner at Portofino's one night, and they came back to Mambo for dinner after appetizers at the other restaurant. The other restaurants do not compare to the high quality and distinctive menu at Mambo on Matachica. Escape the ordinary and head to Matachica resort & spa. You will not regret a visit to this serene and natural resort with it's relaxed attitude and barefoot luxury. I never felt compelled to leave the resort and only left for my tour of the Mayan ruins at Lamanai (by plane and a boat ride down the New River). Thank you Matachica.

~ Ms. Patricia and Mr. David

P.S. Do remember to bring plenty of sunscreen and insect repellent. It's a must if you visit the cayes or the Mayan ruins.

Beauiful beach, tremendous privacy, awesome service, and great food. If you can afford it, this is the best resort on Amgergris Caye.

What struck me the most was that you are always walking on sand outside - truly a sandal or barefoot experience. As we found everywhere in Belize, a very friendly staff that knew who you were within hours. Accommodations were excellent (yes, there are rustling noises in the roof) and the food was great.

An outstanding although loveably excentric restaurant and bar next door, great food and people but just be patient. Take water taxis, unless you want to discover the nastier side of paradise...

Its a bit of an effort to get there, but a huge step up from the big Mexican resorts if you just want to get away.

That said, internet worked well....

Amazing, amazing amazing. All I can do is repeat what others before me have said, and for us it was those little things that made the difference...
-The staff were consistently the same faces greeting and serving us
- Employees who raked the sand clean several times a day (you may notice other "beaches" or resorts that don't have this, and the seaweed piles up quick!)
-Phenomenal food
-Prompt and FREE Matachica Ferry service (there are water taxis that charge if a Matachica ferry isn't going out when you want to)
-The front desk staff were EXTREMELY knowledgeable. Being in a different country, we thought and expected a few language barriers or miscommunications, but the young man and woman who were typically there (names escape me at the moment) were very clear, articulate, detailed and gave good/honest reviews about activities and things to do in and around the area.
-Despite hearing that the resort was almost full, the way the place is designed and run, we would have thought we were the only two people there... had it not been for the conversations we had with others in passing on the Ferry service, lounge chairs outside, etc.

Small suggestions?
-We were not the earliest risers each morning, but it seemed by 8 am the coffee in the restaurant (which was a self-service option) was either always cold or completely empty. The staff were very quick to get a fresh pot going when we asked, however.
-The shower head in our room was a very basic model, which normally I wouldn't really care about however on our 4th day there I got a nice sunburn and it was quite a struggle for me to find a happy medium so that my poor skin didn't feel like it was being attacked by a million little needles. Had it been one of those shower heads where I could adjust the flow and water pressure, it sure would have been the icing on the cake for me :)

Room Tip: Even the second tier options (the rooms that weren't beachfront, but were right behind the beach...

We spent a week at Matachica and it was an amazing property. The resort is beautiful and off the main island, so you feel like you have the beach to yourself. The individual casitas are romantic and spacious. The beaches are combed every morning and the beach chairs are super comfortable. The pool is spectacular. The staff is friendly and cater to your every need with a smile. The food is delicious!!! They set up the most awesome expedition for zip lining and cave tubing with a personal guide. It was by far worth every penny. We will definitely be revisiting Matachica!!!

This is a resort, without feeling "resort-y". It's small, everyone gets they're own brightly colored hut, the service is great, and it's super relaxing. We had a great time lounging here for 3 days after 6 days of adventure activities in the jungle, and it was the perfect combo. The beach isn't great for swimming, but there are comfortable places to lounge on the sand and by the pool. This is definitely a place for couples, not families and kids. It was very comfortable and relaxing. I would definitely recommend it!
