My husband I just returned from 5 days of peace & quiet at Matachica. It was beautiful and we really enjoyed our trip. My husband was traveling on business and I was able to accompany him. We enjoyed the serene setting and privacy of having our own casita, and it was a neat experience. We enjoyed the pool immensely and thought that the added touch of ice water to drink was nice, as it was pretty warm outside during our stay. This kept you from having to walk back and forth from the pool to the restaurant/bar. They did have the waitstaff come around every few to see if we needed anything. It was nice!

The food at Matachica whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner was overall very good! I enjoyed the Belgium waffles at breakfast and the chicken fajitas or salad for lunch. You definitely can't go wrong with the pineapple smoothies in the morning, either. My only "complaint" was some of the portions were rather skimpy as described by my hubby. It was fine for me.

Also, just down the beach a short walk is a great restaurant/beach lounge, RoJo. It was our FAVORITE and we appreciated that it was so close if we wanted to change things up at lunch or dinner.

The beach area at Matachica was beautiful and they have attendants actually raking the sand and cleaning the beach. The beach in other areas, besides the Matachica area, was littered with some trash and sea grass, but this is of course is not the resorts fault. They work very hard at keeping their section of the beach spotless, and it didn't go unnoticed! I actually was amazed at how hard they work to keep everything so beautiful!!

I can't say enough about how quiet the resort is, and you can totally disconnect here if you want, but they do have wifi. It was spotty but sufficient.

As far as activities, we went to Hol-Chan to enjoy snorkeling, and also out to Mexico Rocks.. it was so fun and I highly recommend it. Our guide Chris was very knowledgeable and super concerned with our safety. He actually snorkeled with us so we were never in the water alone. Safety vests were also provided if you wanted to use them. Water & rum punch were also included.

Our Casita at Matachica was cleaned daily and we were always provided with cold drinking water. The amenities in the bathroom were a nice touch, La'Occitane.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here and hope to come back one day. Belize is beautiful, and Matachica is as well! Stay here, I promise you will enjoy!!

Just returned from Matachica and my wife and I had a great time!. We stayed a week in a beachfront Casa (Tangerine) and it was exactly as we had hoped. Private, relaxing, calm, crystal aqua marine waters, comfortable beds, chairs outside the room, with umbrellas to soak up the sun ! We would swing in the hammock and watch the water, or maybe move to the chairs, tough decision, I know. Some mornings we would move to the pool which was just wonderful. Infinity edge, Hottub, looks to the ocean..of course!
The food was excellent, bar staff amazing, waitstaff fantastic, Hello to Archie, Adam, Jose, what a great staff.
I would 100% recommend this resort to anyone looking to de-compress, and R-E-L-A-X. This is our first time to Belize and the people here are just amazing and nice.

Room Tip: all are great

When our resort couldn't accomodate an earlier-than-planned arrival to San Pedro, we were referred to stay 2 nights at Matachica. Once we got there, we didn't want to leave! The place felt like a retreat - each little villa, bungalow, or "hut" as I called them felt so secluded, you really felt like you were the only ones there! The service was amazing, but not cheesy or in-your-face annoying. It was just perfect. If you want to get away (no tvs or phones in the rooms!) with your loved one and spend your time reading in a hammock, having meaningful conversations, and walking the gorgeous beach, this is the place for you!

Room Tip: View of the beach would be amazing, but not required at all. Every villa is situated facing the ocean and feel very private.

We recently celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at Matachica. Burga was awesome in taking our reservation and following up with arranging our Tropic Air flight to San Pedro, even making sure we had a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a nice bottle of chardonnay to celebrate our anniversary. Once we arrived at the San Pedro airport, we were immediately met by Chris with a golf cart to load up our bags and take us to the dock for a quick boat ride to Matachica. We were greeted with Margaritas and met some of the amazing staff. Then we were shown to our beachfront casita, Papaya. The casita was beyond our expectations, right on the beach, beautiful sunrises every morning and hurricane shutters letting the light breeze blow through night and day. Enjoy the comfy bed with linens and towels that are better than home. Even the soaps and shampoo were top of the line. A week didn't seem like enough time, even though we took advantage of almost all of the amenities, sea kayaks, snorkeling on the reef, lounging on the beach and dock baskets, a beautiful and quiet pool. The staff was incredible; always friendly and available taking care of our every need. Thank you Matthew, Adam, Archie, Edwin and the rest. We highly recommend taking advantage of some of the many guided activities, we reef fished for snapper with great success and snorkeled at Mexico Rocks with Charlie and snorkeled again at Hol Chan with Henry. How often to you get to swim with nurse sharks, Moray eels, sting rays and hundreds of variety of reef fish? The kitchen staff turned our freshly caught snapper into amazing fish tacos within the hour. Delicious! The staff makes whatever activity you desire effortless, taking care of all the details. Or just hang out on the property and take walks up and down the beautiful white sand beach. The Mamba Restaurant was outstanding for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between. Matachica is paradise, perfect for relaxing and leaving the real world behind. We also recommend renting a golf cart and touring the island. It's just a short drive into San Pedro a quaint town with several outstanding restaurants, Caliente, on the beach, Elvi's kitchen, and El Fogon. What a sad day it was when the time came to leave our new friends at Matachica, but we are already plotting our next visit. Maybe a few days at Gaia, the sister resort in the mountains, before heading to the beach and reef. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Matachica is the perfect paradise for a quiet relaxing trip. It's what a vacation is supposed to be. Thanks to everyone at Matachica for making our trip so wonderful and memorable.

The road getting to Matachica is very rough and filled with pot holes. Regardless, visiting the resort is well worth the drive to get there. We walked through the resort and visited the bar and had drinks. The jalapeño margarita's are great. Bartenders were very friendly and informative. Glad we took the drive.
