Stayed here for 4 nights in September. We were looking forward to it based on other reviews on this site as well as the Samantha Brown segment on the travel channel. We were not dissapointed !! The resort was beautiful, small, clean with the most helpful and friendly staff we have ever encountered. We had a loft suite which included a downstairs with kitchen, livingroom/bedroom and bath as well as a circular stairway leading to the upstairs kingsize bed and another bathroom. In addition we had a lovely balcony complete with hammock facing the ocean !! What more could you ask for?? Well, the beds were comfortable with great linens, kitchen was fully stocked and the pool was clean and surrounded with plenty of comfortable lounges. Honestly, the only thing missing was an on site bar but we quickly resolved that by purchasing our own supplies to make pina coladas !!
We did take the water taxi to San Pedro which took 1 1/4 hours from Belize City as we wanted to experience it - it was fast and fine. To get back we took the Tropic Air flight which only took 15 minutes and left us right in the airport for our flight home.

Believe all of the reviews on Trip Advisor. This place was great. We stayed for 5 nights in early September. The room was clean, the AC worked perfect and the bed was comfortable. The pool is small, but there are only 18 rooms so it was never crowded.

We walked to the grocery store at the entrance of the property and bought some snacks and a case of beer. All of the rooms have a refrigerator and freezer. We also bought a bottle of vodka at the duty free shop in the Belize City airport. The cost of the bottle was $18 US compared to $40 US on the island.

Ingrid booked our flights and tours without a hitch. We took the ATM Cave Tour tour to the mainland one day. This isn't a widely advertised tour but it was amazing. You get to hike through the rain forest for 45 minutes, eat lunch (very good provided lunch) and then swim into the cave. You then hike through the cave for a half mile. Some areas are wide open and in some places you have to squeeze through small areas. The only light you have is from the light on top of your helmet. After a while in the cave, you get to an open area that contains Mayan artifacts, skulls and bones. Make sure you do this trip if you have the time and money. Look up ATM Tour Belize on Google.

Our other trip was a sailing and snorkeling trip. They picked us up at the resort and we were on the water from 9:00 - 4:00. We sailed to Tres Cocos and Mexico Rocks with a stop at the Palapa Bar for lunch (provided and very good) and drinks. I highly recommend this tour, too.

We ate at all the restaurants that Xanadu recommended and were not dissapointed. One day, we picked up some BBQ chicken from the street vendor at the entrance of the property. It was so good we went back for more.

Xanadu is not a "5 star resort". However, I'd much rather stay at Xanadu than a Four Seasons type resort. The staff is super friendly and the grounds are beautiful.

I just got back from a two week fabulous vacation at the Xanadu Island Resort, and this is the place to stay in Ambergris Caye. Not only was the location perfect, in walking distance to town, but the landscaping made you feel that you were in paradise. The loft room with upstairs bedroom was contemporary, comfortable and spacious. And the A/C was great!! The outside palapa terrace was tranquil and a perfect finishing touch to the room. The swimming pool was immaculate and the Carribbean just a few steps away.

The staff were incredible and helpful way beyond any 5-star hotel I've stayed at. The rooms were cleaned daily and well.

I would highly recommend Xanadu as your place to stay in Belize. It absolutely was a large part in making our vacation a great one. Thanks Ingrid, Barrington and Orlando.

Well, I have to concur with all those who have written before me.... you will not go wrong with a stay at Xanadu. If you are going to be on Ambergris Caye, this is the place to be. I am a big Tripadvisor follower and found a few other followers who were there at the same time. All of us were thrilled with our choice.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, the setting is stunning, the feeling is intimate and relaxing, the location is great and the service is superb. We loved all the trips that Ingrid booked for us. I also liked that the resort had preserved so many trees. Not something we saw in many other places we walked passed.
Although there is no restaurant on site, there are a couple places within a very short easy walk, along the beach. There is a grocery store at the entrance to Xanadu so getting supplies, even last minute items, is very easy. San Pedro is a very doable 15 to 20 min walk along the beach, which we did a few times with our kids.
Make sure you do - a snorkeling trip to Shark Ray Alley with Alphonse.
Best Frozen Custard and Sorbet - DandE, in town a few doors down from Caramba on Pescador Drive - Ask about the bullseye.
Restaurants we liked - Wild Mangos, Sunset Grill, El Patio (excellent spicy fish in a coconut sauce) and Hidden Treasure.

A Year Later – Still the BEST! We stayed at Xanadu in May, and again in July of 2008, and loved it. If we had not found and purchased our “Casa de Suenos” (House of Dreams) in September 2008, we would be returning several times a year. The Staff is terrific! Stacey and Sue (unfortunately no longer there, but replaced by enthusiastic and unbelievably wonderful people) were always willing to help us with any question we had. Other staff were standing by, listening and learning, and bending over backwards to make sure our needs were met. This includes the grounds keepers, daily workers, and housekeeping staff, who always had things looking so clean that you didn’t even think about it. They always had time to stop, smile, ask how our day was going, and if we needed anything they were ready to help. Some of our fondest memories were spent during our after-dusk swim, while Security double-checked to be sure there were no signs of trouble. Martin stands by with his wealth of experience, and runs the best golf cart rental on the island. (Yes, there is a difference between golf cart rentals!) Both stays we rented a one-bedroom unit, 7A. It was perfect for us. We had a view of the pool, close walk to the office, the beach, and even into town. We could sit out on the end of the pier and watch the sunrise while we waited for scuba trips to pick us up, and we could walk as far as we wanted, up and down the beach. There were plenty of close-by restaurants and bars, and easy shopping for when we wanted to cook inside. We have now been to Ambergris Caye six times within a year, and we can say honestly, we have not seen a better place. We have walked the beaches, looked at the other hotels and rental houses, tried the restaurants and bars (a little too much!) and compared the local shops. Xanandu makes it all possible. When we have overflow guests, there is only one place they will stay – at Xanadu!

We picked this hotel because of all the gushing reviews in Trip Advisor. I have to say with the name Xanadu I was a bit skeptical - however most of what everyone says is correct, with just a few exceptions (I'm pretty picky).

First - San Pedro/Ambergris. Wonderful island with friendly people. There aren't many cars, and most people get around by golf cars or bicycles. Eating is expensive and food is a bit boring. Try to go off the beach and eat at a few local spots. For veggies (like me) try Ali Baba's. Very good middle eastern food. Treat yourself to a dinner at Victoria House. Best high end food on the island (but with corresponding high NYC prices). Overrated: Wild Ginger and Hidden Treasures (Hidden Treasures pushes a $38US main course dinner special...higher than NYC and not worth it). Get a bike and ride on the beach (most hotels provide them for free) - it's a great way to see the island. Cross the bridge and have breakfast at Ak"bol, and be sure to have a drink at Palapa Bar (on the end of a pier near Ak'bol). Getting to San Pedro is easy - go with Tropic Air. (Note to whiteknuckle flyers - the flight is only 15 minutes on a 15 seat plane. Gorgeous scenery. The plane sometimes makes unscheduled stops for a minute or two at other islands). Taking the water taxi/ferry is long, tedious and nauseating. NOTE: there are no swimming beaches on San Pedro (the locals call it San Pedro and not Ambergris Caye). You walk down long piers to a palapa and jump into the water. The seagrass makes it not easy to wade in from the beach/sea walls and swim. Also, beaches in front of land that is not developed is full of garbage and muck. You probably will be hustled a few times to buy this and that on the beach, but not aggressively. Just say no thanks and smile as you walk away.

OK - back to Xanadu. 5 stars aspects of the hotel: The staff are top notch. They do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. The location is wonderful - south of San Pedro, but close enough to walk on the beach and not be in the center of town. The pool is great - beautiful landscaping surrounding it. The pier/palapa can't be beat.

The 4+ star aspects of the hotel: no bar or restaurant. So you have to grocery shop. Not a huge deal because rooms have full kitchens. There are just a few restaurants/bars nearby. But it only takes 10-15 minutes to walk on the beach to San Pedro where there are lots. Also, the rooms could use a tiny bit of an update, but all in all they are very comfortable and above standard for sure. Golf cart rentals are very expensive - $US 70 per day.

So all in all a great property, and one I have no hesitation recommending or going back to. Xanadu is top notch.

This hotel is truly a wonderful place to stay. The staff will bend over backwards to make you feel at home. They want your experience with them to be perfect. They anticipate your every need before you need it. They are willing to book any of your travel or any excursions you want to do. Which makes the stay hassle free for you! They are also very helpful with recommendations of places to eat.
The grounds and rooms are spotless. They have their own pier where the dive boats can pick and drop you off at. Which is such a plus for divers! This hotel is within walkable distance to everything. Less than 1 mile walk on the beach will get you to the heart of downtown. And if you don't want to walk they will let you use their bikes for free!!!
We will definitely be back to stay at the Xanadu hotel again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
