We LOVED our stay at the Amber Sunset Jungle Resort! We planned 3 nights to explore the Belizean interior, and chose ASJG based on location, a very good off-season rate deal, and generally positive visitor reviews. Our expectations for the stay were actually exceeded! Myra, our hostess, and Nigel and the chefs team delivered fantastic service and more than anything we enjoyed their authenticity and kindness. It felt like we were staying in someone's home as opposed to a resort in many ways. The resort's mascot, Rambo, is the best dog and we loved saying hi to him each morning and evening!

Our cabana, the Garifuna, was BEAUTIFUL and so well-appointed. The decor and furnishings were truly top notch and our cabana smelled like a spa the entire time we were there. Although our unit did not have AC, the fan worked very well and we stayed very cool. We experienced no problems with insects inside of our cabana aside from the occasional ant or little bug and were very comfortable; that being said, it should be noted that Amber Sunset IS set IN the jungle and expectations should be managed for this. If you don't want to deal with any insects at all or a more natural environmental setting is not your bag, then Amber Sunset may not be for you! Also, be prepared to hike every day to and from your room; it's a little bit of a walk from the main grounds to the rooms but we loved it because it was a nice workout especially since we were eating so much good food :)

We ate with the on-site restaurant for all of our breakfasts and two of our dinners and we really enjoyed the meals each time. The menu is set for each meal and changes every day, so eating with Amber Sunset is best if you're less picky and you're excited to try different types of authentic Belizean dishes. We were and it was great!

Amber Sunset was perfectly located for all of the jungle and historical sights that we wanted to experience in Belize's interior, and the tour setups were very well-managed and so enjoyable. The tours were set up through Myra and her team and were tremendous; Luis and Ramos, our guides for the ATM Cave Tour and Xunantunich/Cahal Peck Tours, respectively, were the best and we loved hanging out with and learning from them.

All in all, HIGHLY recommend Amber Sunset for anyone who wants to spend time exploring Belize off-the-beach! Our only recommendations for the team would be to have even more free water in the rooms (we drank a LOT of water because it was so hot!) and easier access to coffee in the mornings - we drink a lot of it and it would be great to have a free source during the morning and afternoon hours outside of set meals. And a great tip for anyone who doesn't like bugs- make sure to keep your lights off every time you leave your cabana; we did and we think that this may have contributed to our fantastic bug-free experience inside of our cabana!

THANKS, Myra, Giovanno, Nigel and team for such a wonderful experience!! We will be back again!!

I, along with two of my friends, recently enjoyed a 3-night stay at the Amber Sunset. We purchased their all-inclusive package, which included round-trip transfer from the airport, accommodations in one of the 3-bedroom "family tree house" units, meals, and our excursions. The only other expenses we had were our drinks in the evening at the bar.

I was impressed right from the start with everyone at Amber Sunset. This is a family owned property and they provide outstanding service. I exchanged emails in advance of our trip with Giovanni, and he did a great job explaining our excursion options, coordinating our pick-up from the airport, and answering general questions.

Since we were traveling at the start of the off-season for Belize, we mostly had the resort to ourselves. The ground are really pretty, up a hill from the main road. Each of the tree house units is its own stand-alone unit, so even if the resort was fully booked, you would still have lots of privacy. One thing to note -- as it is built on a hill, there is a fair amount of "hiking" uphill to get to the units. This place is not ideal for someone with mobility issues.

Our tree house was gorgeous. Three levels, tons of wood, and one side was just a screen with wooden framing to allow for lots of air flow. Note that there is no A/C, as the units are open-air. However, it cools off pretty nicely and every level has a ceiling fan. We loved the multiple decks with hammocks and chairs... and surprisingly, there were no mosquitos while we were there. We did have a small issue with ants on the ground floor level the first night, but the resort took care of that for us.

Meals at the resort were a true highlight. Everything was really tasty. There was plenty of food each meal, but not so heavy that you felt weighed down. We loved the Fry Jacks from the first morning so much that we asked for them to be served again our last morning. Giovanni arranged for us to try stuffed Fry Jacks and they were even better than the originals. The dinners were also outstanding, with a starter, main course, and dessert each night. it felt like we were eating at someone's house, it was so good.

The excursions that Amber Sunset arranged were both really good. We did a combo zipline and cave tubing trip on the first full day... and then upgraded to an all-day trip into Guatemala to visit the Tikal Mayan Site. The guide for our cave tubing day was the same person who was our driver from the airport - Marcel - so we knew him well. He was great and we really enjoyed our cave tubing adventure. The guide for our trip to Tikal was also good -- he's done it for 25 years, so he was a wealth of knowledge and made the trip special.

All in all, we really enjoyed our time at Amber Sunset and would highly recommend staying here. The service is top notch, as they really care about every guest and ensuring that you have an enjoyable time. You just don't get this kind of personalized service everywhere.

We loved our stay at Amber Sunset. Becuase we visited in the slow season, we were the only 2 guests at the resort. Giovanni and Myra were great hosts and we enjoyed talking to them about Belize. The food was very authentic and home-made. It felt like visiting someone's home. The little pool and bar were so great to hang out at during the day. We spend a lot of our time hanging out in our "tree house" with a hammock and a hanging bed, it was really cool> we loved the outdoor tub! We did the ATM cave tour that Giovanni helped arrange for us. It was amazing (I reviewed that on it's own too). We only spent 2 nights here in the jungle but loved the quiet relaxing break it gave us from our otherwise jam-packed vacation schedule. Thanks Amber Sunset!

My family and I took a very much need trip to Cayo for a relaxing and tropic vacation and we got to stay at Amber sunset resort. When we got there it was quite impressed with the layout of the facilites, the atmosphere was exactly what we envision, which was tropical all over...The suit we stayed in was spacious and accommodated for us. The employees there are super nice welcoming with a great customer service. It's a great place to relax and get away from the world for a weekend or two...I mean what can you expect from a family owned business that success in satisfying their customers!

We love Amber Sunset! This place is awesome! We were fortunate enough to stay here for three nights.

First of all, Giovanni and Myra are wonderful people! They are so kind and accommodating and made sure that we had everything we needed to make sure our time with them was exceptional. We also really enjoyed talking with them during our stay!

We stayed in the Garifuna treehouse and we loved it! The high thatched roof is awesome and there is plenty of space for two to spread out and just relax. The treehouse also has a panoramic open air window (with bug screens) so you can hang out and just enjoy the jungle views from inside. We also loved the swinging bed and the hammock in the room! We did see a few bugs in the treehouse, but when you're in the middle of the jungle in a thatch roofed treehouse, this can be expected. They didn't bother us!

We enjoyed dinner three times and breakfast once at the resort. They have an amazing chef! The food was wonderful. We loved their themed dinners - each night focuses on food of a particular cultural group that resides in Belize. It really gives you a feel for the wide variety of Belizean food!

I acquired a new affinity for toucans while in Belize and Amber Sunset is an amazing place to spot them! We saw six total (all keel-billed) in our three days and one was literally hanging out in a tree less than fifty feet from our treehouse - we spotted him right from the window! It was truly an unforgettable experience.

This place is only a twenty minute drive from San Ignacio and definitely has that "deep in the jungle" feel you are looking for! We would recommend booking here if you're looking for wonderful hosts and an amazing jungle experience! Thanks again Giovanni and Myra! :)

Thank you for this great review Ashley. We are very proud and happy to hear that your time with us was amazing. Our team does it's best to ensure all our guests have a great time while staying us.
Being in the jungle has it's challenges, and of course, one of them is the bugs. We have taken many precautions to keep them out of the treehouses. Unfortunately, some of the smaller ones do slip by. You are also right in saying that the bugs just leave you alone.
Toucans are fairly regular visitors to our resort, especially in the early mornings. We are happy you got to see them.
Thank you again, and we hope to see you both again very soon!
