Tolacca is a little known gem in Santa Elena, truly a great place if you love BBQ. The chef knows how to season, smoke, cook and prepare all the meats and veggies using only fresh ingredients that will wishing you had them in your hometown. Off the beaten tourist path a bit, you feel slightly local. We wish we would have tried them sooner so we could have returned again! Great value on food and drinks, the baby back ribs were so much meat and cooked so perfectly. Service is also wonderful and professional. Definitely put this place on your list.

Like a lot of restaurants in Belize this place is small, quaint and awesome! Is a little hard to find as most streets in BZ don't have street signs. If coming from San Ignacio, once you drive over the Hawksworth Bridge, go about half to three-quarters mile. About a block after 'Diversion' Sign (for the other bridge), you'll see Anna's SuperMarket and Sterling Meats on the left. Just after on the right is a street going up diagnol, so hang a sharp right up the hill. Tolocca's is on the left and not too far up - we almost drove right past it. Not much parking, we just parked on the side of the road. Food was excellent. Husband had a big ol pork chop like you'd get back in the states. Several side dishes filled out the plate and we had plenty to eat at a great price. The Belizian who owns this apparently lived in Canada for some years where he perfected his BBQ skills, which is apparent.

My husband sees an opening for off road parking close to Tolacca. We take it and walk over. As the pictures testify, the food was as amazing as the presentations. The service was gracious as I find with most Belizean restaurants. Fresh fruit, grilled vegetables and meat that was flavorful. He had the wings... don't be put off by the oyster and fish oils in the marinade. I had the lamb. Not the traditional chop but instead a hearty flavorful cut of meat that leaves you satisfied. A must stop! Ooooh, in the evenings they have a fire going... yummmy

We were looking for a low-key dinner after exploring ruins all day. We ordered a comfort food appetizer, one chicken and one pork entree, and two natural juices for $40 Bz. Their prices were fair and the food was delicious. Pork ribs were tender and smoky, fell off the bone. Each entree came with a very fresh salad, pasta salad, and choice of steamed potatoes or fries (both were great). Service was friendly, quick, and the open air atmosphere was pleasant. We would visit again.
