Chaleanor Hotel

Chaleanor Hotel was clean and in a convenient location. But it had some problems. Our room was up 3 flights of steep stairs around in back of the hotel. The bed was decked out with sheets and crunchy pillows-no mattress pad even. The advertised continental breakfast was bananas and coffee with a cup set out for donations. The best part of the time we spent in Dangriga was the bargain laundry service at Val's. The trip to Marie Sharp's hot sauce factory was a good tour offset by a horrendously bad road to get there. Dangriga and the Chaleanor Hotel were not a highlight of Belize.

We stayed just one night at the Chaleanor in Dangriga. The place is centrally located, nice and perfectly clean and the owner family was very extremely helpful finding the best way to our next destination.
If therer's one thing on the down side then we think the room rate is rather high, e.g compared to places in much more touristy Hopkins.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms have a better view. Building has a large terrace on the roof.

Many of the hotels and restaurants listed in our guidebook did not exist anymore, so we didn't have much choice to choose from. We checked Chaleanor Hotel and Bonefish Hotel which are just one block apart. Both were rather expensive considering the conditions of the rooms (most hotels in Belize tended to be that way), but we judged Chaleanor better because the staff were more pleasant and the rooms were brighter (ones on the upper floor). And we didn't regret it.
Although the rooms aren't all that great, they are safe, pleasant, and big enough, with good views over the town. What makes the place special are the owners Chad and Eleanor, who were very helpful in every way, and very well informed about the goings-on in town, providing us with all the information and connections we needed. All the people they introduced us to (from taxi drivers to drum makers and restaurant owners) were honest, reliable people, and thanks to them we actually did enjoy very special encounters which eventually led us all the way down to Livingston, Guatemala. So on the way back, we didn't hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are bigger and better, but much more expensive. Extra for use of A/C.

In July of 2012 I went on a missions trip to Dangriga along with members from my church and other churches as well; while on our trip Chaleanor Hotel was where we stayed. I absolutely loved this place for various reasons! First of all the service is absolutely superb! While there I became very close with all the employers there especially their sons! Of course it was hard adjusting to the new atmosphere and climate but everyone there helped it move along a lot easier. Everyday our rooms were cleaned and our sheets changed with neat towel designs laying on our beds.(One design was even an elephant!) The two beautiful ladies who took time to do this always did it with a smile on their face and made sure we were having a good time. When it came time to leave Eleanor teared up and said that we were one of the best groups she has had stay at her hotel! Everyone at that hotel is remembered by everyone who stayed there during our trip and if I ever get the opportunity to visit again staying at the Chanleanor Hotel would, without a doubt, be my first choice!

My husband and I stayed 1 night Jan 8th before departing to Tobacco Caye. The rate was a little more than expected for Belize but worth it. We did pay extra for air conditioning because it was our first night in Belize and felt we weren't climatized yet. Very friendly and accommodating family/staff. Coffee and bananas in the lobby, Clean small room on the ground floor off the lobby. Had 3 beds, TV, ceiling and floor fan, free wi fi, Cute little landscaped area off to the side. Building is secured at night. It was perfect location for a 2 block walk to the Stann Creek Bridge area where we found everything we needed to supply for next two nights on Tobacco.

We have been staying at the Chaleanor ( combination of Chad & Eleanor ) for the past
10 years, comfortable, clean, secure, good company and helpful staff.

If we return to Dangriga next year we will stay at the Chaleanor.

We stayed at the Chaleanor Jan 11-20th 2013 as home base for a medical mission trip. Chad and Eleanor are wonderful hosts. The hotel is impeccably clean, fresh linen each day, fresh fruit and coffee each morning in the lobby. The hotel is very secure as well.
The rooms are spacious. The air conditioning works very well to cool the room as well as drown out noise. Everyone in Dangriga has multiple dogs and chickens. There is certainly nothing Chad and Eleanor can do about all the barking dogs. No matter where you stay, you will encounter this noise. So be prepared with ear plugs, and use the air conditioning as well.

Room Tip: We were in room 9 which faces the water.
