Mix together the Three Iguanas, Stefano the property manager, Sophia the housekeeper and Placencia, a village in Belize. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Four of us stayed at the Three Iguanas Villa in Placencia for a couple of weeks. Belize is not the easiest country to get to but is well worth the effort and is not overrun with tourists. We arrived at the villa on a Friday evening, hot and tired! We were greeted by Stefano, the property manager, who showed us around the villa and then explained in great detail the best places in Placencia to shop, dine, get tours from as well as the best beaches to relax on. The villa is situated on the outskirts of Placencia and is in easy walking distance of the beaches, shops, restaurants, bars and the ice cream parlor. The location makes the villa quite private and almost secluded. It is a large villa comprised of three floors that can be rented individually, two at a time or as a complete holiday home. We rented the main floor and the upper floor. The main floor is well equipped with two bedrooms, a kitchen, an area to relax while conversing with the person doing the cooking, a dining area and a living 'room' with comfortable couches, a TV and a collection of books and magazines. There is also a very large deck on which one can sit and enjoy morning coffee as the sun rises or have a lazy lunch or, just hang out on. The upper floor is smaller and well appointed.
On the roof is a sunning area and a splash pool. The garden is neat and tidy and equipped with a Palapa (an open sided palm thatched-roof structure sometimes referred to as a grass or Tiki hut) under which you can relax in the shade and read a good book. The far end of the garden is a mooring dock on the short canal that runs into the lagoon. This is a perfect spot for a quick swim to cool off or to enjoy your morning exercise swim.
We saw Stefano just about every day and he was very attentive to our needs and was always looking for ways to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We met Sophia several times and she did our laundry, changed the sheets on the beds and did a quick clean up several times during our stay.
The villa is equipped with bicycles for the use of the quests. We preferred to walk everywhere and immerse ourselves in the culture of the peninsula. We shopped at the stores and used one of the tour companies that Stefano recommended. Stefano is a font of knowledge about the area as he has lived there for many years.
One of our group is an accomplished chef so we ate 'at home' everyday. The kitchen was great, the stove and oven worked splendidly and all the necessary crockery and utensils were in good supply.
Two of use are amateur photographers and managed to get photos of the three iguanas that gave the villa it's name. Sophia came running out one afternoon to show us a baby iguana that she thought we would like to photograph... how thoughtful of her!
My recommendation to the owners is that they rename the villa "The three-and-a-half Iguanas"!
All in all, we had a great holiday and I would definitely go back to Placentia, The Three Iguanas, Stefano and Sophia.

We were two couples traveling together. Three Iguanas Villa gave us
plenty of space, privacy, and provided us with a comfortable living, dining, and kitchen area to enjoy. We had the second floor which has two spacious bedrooms and the nicest bathrooms we saw while in Belize. I do wish the bedrooms had room darkening shades on the windows. Way too much light came in from the street for me to sleep soundly even though the bed was most comfortable.
The location is ideal. It is easy to walk over to the beach or to the sidewalk shops and restaurants.
Stefano was most helpful and his warm, humorous personality made our stay fun.
Don't miss a visit to Tutti Frutti, the best gellato shop this side of Italy. Rumfish was our favorte restaurant for seafood and desserts.
We were pleased with our choice of Three Igaunas Villa.

We enjoyed our stay at the Three Iguanas Villa. We rented the second floor for five night with two couples. The house was very spacious and clean. The house was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay--cooking utensils, wine glasses, blender, bottle opener, can opener, bath towels, beach towels, coffee pot, pitchers, room safe, etc. I will say the house needs a little TLC and/or a little sprucing up. We had good hot shower with plenty of water pressure. The beds were very comfortable. My only complaint about the bedrooms was there were only very light shades for the windows. Lots of light coming in from outside security night lights and morning sunlight. If you are like me and need it dark to sleep--bring a pair of eye blinders/sleep mask. Also the A/C unit in our bedroom was very noisy for the first hour or so & then turned to a dull hum.
The location was great!! Right on the lagoon with a dock. You could swim in the lagoon but we did not. Less than one mile walk to the end of the village and about 2 or 3 blocks to the beach. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, markets, stores, tour guides, & trinket shops all within walking distance. We were far enough away to not hear all the noises from the bars at night. We felt very safe at this location.
We had some blended rum drinks up on the third story pool area one night and watched the sunset. It was pretty neat.
Stefano greeted us at our arrival and gave us a wealth of information about the area. He gave us suggestions for food & tour guides. He was around just about every day.
We did all our own house cleaning. We did not see or meet Sofia until our last day. She was very pleasant.
Placencia Village is a pretty rustic place-most of the people that live here are very poor (but friendly). The houses along the lagoons are some of the nicer places to stay. If we were to ever come back, I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: The houses along the lagoons are some of the nicer places to stay in Placencia.

Our family of 10 spent the Christmas holiday at Three Iguanas. What a fantastic place and wonderful experience! We rented the entire house, which served us well. We did a lot of cooking since 2 daughters and one daughter in law are fabulous cooks, but we also went out for meals, all of which were good but not as good as what our girls made. Stefano, the property manager took care of everything from getting us reliable boats and drivers to taxi drivers. Stefano is the best. He is very attentive and lots of fun. The area is laid back and aside from day trips, it is the place for beach folks like me. We preceded this time at Crystal Paradise Resort in San Ignacio, which was filled with activity and a great balance for our kids and grandkids. ( I also highly recommend that family owned facility). The villa is well equipped and the plunge pool on the 3rd floor roof was my favorite spot. Sitting in the sun, then getting wet was a pleasure. While the oven is not really usable and it took us a long time to find out that the grill was easily a good replacement for the oven. The kitchen on the second floor is the only really well equipped kitchen and it became our gathering center. Rooms are beautiful and well appointed. What's not to love? Sofia is the housekeeper and changes the sheets once a wk. She is also lovely but low profile. We have rented villas in Tuscany, Dordogne, and Diani, Kenya. They were all unique and wonderful but this one was no less charming than the other three. The whole family loved our time at Three Iguanas, however, I only ever saw one iquana - on the wall. Upon entering the villa you can feel the energy that it must have taken to create such a personalized paradise. The location is perfect – 2 minutes away from the most spectacular sandy beach, local markets and restaurants. It was great to buy fresh fish from the local fishermen just a minute walk from the villa. The property exceeds privacy with many areas to relax and read or just soak up the sun. The bedrooms with ensuites are always great to find and the owners of this villa didn’t disappoint. The fresh white linens, towels and individual robes were an absolute joy! Big thanks to Sofia!
We love to cook therefore we took full advantage of the wonderful kitchen equipped with all the essentials. The kitchen and dining area had a fabulous layout for a larger family gathering, still equally pleasing, as it was just the two of us.
Stefano, the Property Manager gave us a wonderful welcome as well did Sofia, the House Cleaner! Stefano is very informative in regards to what to do in the area and best places to shop. In addition, Sofia is always there to help whether to change the bed linens or pump air in your bicycle tire. Their personalities are an perfect match - they work together in harmony.
