One of the most majestic places I’ve been in Central America. I’d highly recommend to anyone. Take a boat ride and climb San Pedro if you make it out there. It is well worse the expense and effort, respectively.

Clean, beautiful, and peaceful. Surrounded by volcanoes, small villages, and some small (but really comfortable) resorts. Great photographic site.

My favourite destination in Guatemala. The lake is surrounded by 3 volcanoes and you can choose different towns to stay which all have its own charme and attract different kind of people.

Absolutely loved driving around this lake. Beautiful scenery, extremely picturesque. You can easily spend a whole day here if not longer. So plan accordingly. Avoid some of the more tourist towns and try and head to the quieter smaller places.

I spent four weeks studying Spanish and living with a host family at Lake Atitlan, and could have stayed longer!! The Lake is breathtaking, surrounded by volcanoes and mountains. There are kayak rentals, hiking excursions, amazing people, plenty of Spanish schools, great restaurants, history, a nature reserve (in the pueblo "Panajachel"), and so much more. There are seven major pueblos around the lake to explore (many more small ones), all completely unique, and accessible by small boat taxis (lanchas). Definitely worth spending some time in the area, a must- see in Central America!
