I wanted to try freediving in Utila after speaking with some Australian surfers on my travels. They told me of how the course teaches you how to dive deeper and hold your breath longer. I figured these would be handy skill to have for some of the other watersports I'm involved in and signed up when I arrived on the island. What I discovered was a whole other sport I quickly became hooked on.

Tex is an amazing instructor (the only freediving instructor in the Bay Islands), a very down to earth guy who is really encouraging and helps get the best out of everyone. With a good instructor and the right attitude, freediving is something anyone is capable of doing.

As soon as I finished the beginner course, I signed up for the advanced freediving course straight away. After two days I was diving to 25 meters, and as deep as 38 meters by the end of the advanced course.

I headed to Utila for a week of scuba diving, and ended up staying for two weeks of freediving. Scuba diving took a back seat and became the other activity I did when I wasn't free diving.

I would highly recommend the freediving course with Apnea Total Freediving, Utila. After traveling through all of Central America the two weeks of freediving are without a doubt some of the best parts of my entire trip. I've discovered a new sport and hope to do lots more freediving in the future.
