I stayed for over a week and it went by so fast.

Most of the folks that visit and stay in Utila are divers. I am not one.

There are flights and ferry options. Both are perfect. I took a really short 10 minute flight.

When you arrive by either there are lots of tut tut taxis to take you to your hotel. Most prices are 30 Lempiras (About $1.24 *This post is being written October 2018).

I hired a great driver a few times when I was there. His name is Chover. Super friendly and nice. I used Google translate to coordinate the trips and had no problems at all. He is fair and I often tipped him triple for not taking advantage of me. His cell is +504 9584-9082

The hotel was able to check me in quite early along with a very late check out.

The rooms in Honduras are surprisingly large.

The hotel has it’s own perfect dock for you to sunbath, watch the sunrise and sunset from along with going right into the water.

The breakfast is included (Again as of Oct 2018). Free is a choice of Typical or Continental. Small portions for the continental so you may want to order additional items (Super affordable with the exchange rate).

They have a daily lunch special for about $5 and is pretty tasty.

The bar area gets busy at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Though the staff handles the crowd well.

They hotel is very accommodating. Just about anything that you need they will be able to get for you.

There were local fisherman that delivered fresh catch and I was able to buy one for an amazing price and the kitchen fried it for me. Couldn’t have been more perfect.

Most folks say don’t use the atms in Honduras. There are Western Unions in La Ceiba, Utila and Coxen Hall (Down the street from West End in Roatan). You can send yourself money. Came in real handy when I literally ran out of money. Be patient the first time you pick up money for yourself. They need to input quite a bit of information into the system. Be sure to take your passport.

When I spoke to a few people in Utila they said the hotel charged about 3/4 times what others did and you could actually rent an apartment for a month for the price I paid for a week.

Though for me it was worth it. I knew If there were any issues it would be resolved.

The divers seemed to be pleased with their dives and they also have a dive instructor school which looked very organized and professional.

I think the hotel can do so much more marketing. Highlight on your rooms. I travel quite a bit and was truly impressed with them. Put pictures of the sunrise and sunset on your site.

Include videos of the divers hanging out. Highlight how much training goes into the students getting their certification. It was all pretty cool to sit back and witness.

Thanks for a great stay. I can say that I will be back

Utila Lodge is one of the most relaxing scuba destinations I’ve been to. The meals were good and the diving was terrific. I saw a lot of unusual things but no whale sharks. . Guess that means we’ve got to go back. One word of caution, I never wore my shoes or sandals the whole time we were there. You may forget them for the trip home if you aren’t careful.

I just want to start by saying Utila Lodge and it's staff is the best place we have ever stayed. The staff was always there to make sure you got what you wanted to drink and make sure your stay is perfect. The food was great and the diving was spectacular. We got certified in open water and the instructors were patient and very kind. I would go back there again in a heartbeat and take all my kids. You can't beat the sunset views and beautiful blue waters.

Utila Lodge has about 8 rooms which for me is the perfect size. The management and staff are very friendly and efficient. The rooms are very comfortable with a screened in porch with a hammock. The showers have plenty of hot water. Every night when having dinner the staff comes around and fills up your pitchers with ice water. What a great way to avoid the plastic bottles which are omnipresent and other hotels.

The food, while not gourmet quality, is tasty and filling. Because the Lodge is-located over a peer it is a bit quieter than many of the other places to stay here despite being only a five minute walk to the center of town.

Most people who stay here are divers so a few words about their dive operation. The guide, Chris, is very good at both spotting unusual critters and telling you what they are. I was one of only two divers during most of my stay. When this happens they share a boat with the adjacent college of diving. One day we had as many as 16 divers on board. The boat is big and Chris kept us away from the other divers so this was not a big problem. Diving on the north side of Utila is far superior to diving on the south side. When conditions permit they will take the one hour boat trip up to the north side.

If I return to Utila (which I enjoyed) I will definitely stay at the Utila Lodge again.

‘Just back from my third dive trip to the Utila Lodge. It hasn’t changed much since I first went there. Happily, the reef hasn’t changed much either.

The diving was delightful. We had good conditions, minimal current and just one surge-y day. The water was warm. Most divers wore swim suits and rash guards or a skin. (I’m always cold so used a 3mm shorty.)

The skill of the dive master and boat captain greatly contributed to the quality of the diving. Dive master Chris is excellent. He renewed everyone’s interest in sand (found a spoon-nosed snake eel) and small things (found a neck crab).

We didn’t see a whale shark this time. However, Captain Albert was able to put us in the water with dolphins — an exciting first for me.

This is full service diving at its finest: all boat dives, no lugging tanks or transferring BCDs. It was all taken care of for us. During our week we dove for five and a half days, 12 morning dives, three afternoon dives and two nice night dives. Most dives were over an hour.

The lodge is intimate and friendly. All the staff are very good, kind, and motivated. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, the air conditioning all one could ask for. Our room (E) had excellent water pressure and lots of hot water.

One of my favourite things is that they deliver coffee to the room each morning. I loved sitting in the screened in porch in the mornings, drinking coffee and looking out over the water.

We opted for the full meal plan. However, there are now many more options for eating out in Utila than when we first visited the island and the lodge is very centrally located, so on my next visit, I would choose a partial meal plan.

We were at the lodge during a quiet week. The number of guests ranged from four to seven during our stay.

Room tip: I recommend room E. Top floor and nearest the water.
